NOTE -
These directions apply to all silver, green or red single heater Hot Tap showers. Options like the 4 gallon case,
5 gallon soft case and push button piezo ignition may not be on your model. Pump and battery case may differ in appearance than
one illustrated. Hot Tap color may differ to product shown on box or case label.
SET-UP
1. Select a clean flat area clear of leaves, vehicles or other flammable materials. Remove shower system and pump from case. Fill
case with 3 - 4 gallons of water. Remove lid from Zodi 4 gallon hard case by fully opening lid.
2. Ensure propane gas valve is turned OFF. Connect a new 16.4 oz. propane cylinder to Hot Tap gas valve. Place detached lid on flat
level ground, insert cylinder bottom securely into lid middle cavity (see photo 1). Some models do not have hard cases, these models
use a traditional lantern style round base to secure propane cylinder. Propane must be in a vertical position and safely secured when
operating heater.
3. Load 4 “NEW” Energizer
™
D-cell alkaline batteries into battery case. Check pump operation by holding pump in hand while
pushing red ON/OFF button on battery case. If pump fails to operate check that batteries are good and correctly installed, then turn
pump switch OFF. If pump still fails, remove batteries and bend battery contacts upward to ensure good contact. Squeeze any kinks
from all hoses (low water flows are usually due to weak batteries). If using optinal 12 volt pump connect pump to pump hose.
PUMPING WATER
1. Carefully submerge entire pump in water source (place pump in bottom corner of 4 gallon case to draw as much water as
possible). Turn pump “ON” to establish water flow from shower head (place shower head inside case to conserve water). Water
should flow from shower head within 20 seconds; if not, check for a kinked pump hose or shower hose. If water still fails to spray,
release vapor lock in Hot Tap by applying suction to shower head to initiate water flow (Heater must be off).
NOTE - In natural water sources DO NOT place the pump directly on sandy lake bottom. Place the pump on top of pebbles or
rocks. Place small rock on wire near pump to prevent tides from pushing pump onto shore.
HEATING
1. Water must always be flowing from shower head when heater is on. AFTER cold water is flowing from Hot Tap shower head,
ignite propane burner on Hot Tap by placing a “lit match” inside small hole on back side of Hot Tap then slowly turn on propane gas
valve (see photo 3). Water MUST be flowing from Hot Tap shower head BEFORE igniting heater and any time heater is operating.
Keep hands, face and clothing clear of top and bottom covers on Hot Tap at all times. In windy conditions, shield system from wind.
On models with piezo push button ignitor, slightly open gas valve while rapidly pushing ignitor 3 times, if systems fails to ignite, turn
gas valve off for 1 minute before reigniting. After ignition, if flames exit top cover, turn gas valve down. Gas cylinders must be in a
vertical position during use and safely secured in propane base when heating.
DO NOT HEAT INDOORS. DO NOT IGNITE OR OPERATE HEATER INSIDE TENTS, RVs, HOMES OR OTHER CONFINED
AREAS. CAUTION: SYSTEM GETS HOT. KEEP CHILDREN CLEAR WHEN OPERATING. USE ONLY OUTDOORS IN WELL
VENTILATED AREAS. THIS DEVICE GENERATES CARBON MONOXIDE WHEN OPERATING. THIS DEVICE GETS VERY HOT
WHEN OPERATING. IMPROPER USE CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. ZODI OUTBACK GEAR LLC NOT RESPONSIBLE
FOR IMPROPER USE.
NOTE - DO NOT TURN OFF WATER PUMP OR REMOVE WATER PUMP FROM WATER OR RESTRICT PUMP FROM WATER
WHEN HEATER IS ON OR SERIOUS INJURY MAY RESULT. WATER MUST ALWAYS BE FREELY FLOWING FROM SHOWER
HEAD WHEN HEATER IS ON. IF WATER PRESSURE DROPS OR WATER TEMPERATURE SUDDENLY INCREASES DURING
USE, IMMEDIATELY POINT SHOWER HEAD AWAY FROM BODY AND SAFELY TURN OFF PROPANE HEATER. IGNITE
ONLY AFTER PROPER WATER FLOW HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED.
2. Allow system to operate for 1 minute before checking water temperature. If water is too hot, turn down propane valve, wait
another 30 seconds and re-check water temperature. If water is not hot enough recycle water in container by placing the shower
head in the same container as the pump (see photo 4). In only a minute or two, the water spraying from the shower head will be
a comfortable temperature. Adjust temperature with shower head in the position you wish to use it as the water temperature will
change slightly upon raising or lowering the shower head. If flames are visible near top exhaust vent, turn down gas valve.
NOTE: Under certain conditions hotter water can be achieved by turning gas valve down.
SHOWERING
1. Hot Tap is now ready for showering. Stand a safe distance away from the Hot Tap during showering periods. Never have the
shower hose so tight that it may cause the Hot Tap to tip over. Do NOT pollute fresh water sources with soaps, etc. For extra
privacy, use the self-supporting Zodi Hut Shower Enclosure or enjoy hands free showering with our Adjustable Height Shower Pole.

SHUTDOWN
1. Turn off propane gas valve and allow water to flow for 20 more seconds. Shut off water pump. Allow system to cool before
handling (system & handle may be hot). Allow water to drain from hoses and heating coil. Disconnect propane from Hot Tap before
storing system or transporting in vehicle. Remove batteries for season. Place system in case and secure lid. Prevent damage or
puncture to soft cases by wrapping heater (after system has cooled) in a towel before placing inside soft case.
