STEP 1
Select flat ground, outdoors in well-
ventilated area 15 ft (5 M) clear of vehicles,
exhaust & flammable materials. Extend all
4 support legs by depressing button in leg/
bracket and rotate legs downward until
secure and locked.
STEP 2
Leave propane valve in off position. Check
that propane valve on X-40 Vent is in
“OFF” position. Securely connect propane
regulator to propane tank. Before using
system, check for leaks (see next page).
Securely position propane tank in an
upright position a safe distance away from
heater.
STEP 3
Attach both air hoses to collars on each
side of X-40 Vent by compressing each
air hose end to form an oval shape.
Slide air hose completely over X-40
Vent Collar. Extend air hose so each air
hose is about 3 to 4 ft. X-40 Vent should
remain at least 3 ft from tent.
STEP 4
Place free end of air hose inside tent. For
best performance wrap X-40 Vent air hose
with a small towel where air hose enters
tent. Towel will protect zipper & keep cold
air from entering tent. Position air hose
away from heat sensitive items & fabrics.
Keep air hose as straight as possible.
STEP 6
When ready to turn on heater, connect
battery clips to battery. Red to positive
(+) and Black to negative (-) terminal
on 12-Volt power source. Air will be
flowing from output air hose.
AIR MUST ALWAYS BE FLOWING FROM FREE
END OF OUTPUT AIR HOSE WHEN HEATER IS ON!
STEP 7
AIR MUST BE FLOWING BEFORE
PROCEEDING. Turn gas on propane
tank to ON/Open position. On front of
the X-40 Vent, push in propane valve
and turn DOWNWARD to the ON
position while pushing in and holding
the ignition button for 5 seconds.
STEP 8
System should ignite instantly. Once
system is ignited, release ignition
button. Check for ignition by feeling
for heat rising from the top of the X-40
Vent. If system fails to ignite, shut off
propane valve and wait one minute.
Repeat Step 7.
SHUT DOWN
Turn propane valve on front of X-40 Vent “OFF” then turn “OFF”
propane tank gas valve. Allow fan to continue blowing air for 2
minutes before turning “OFF” fan. Turn fan off by removing clips
from 12 V power source. Allow X-40 Vent to cool completely.
Remove regulator from propane tank before handling, storing or
transport.
NOTES:
INSULATE TENT - The X-40 Vent is designed to heat
your tent when outside air temperature is between 30° to 60°.
Below 30° propane loses performance and the total area of
the tent walls may disperse hot air away faster than the X-40
Vent can supply hot air. In cold areas, add an extra layer of
insulation to your tent, such as securing a blanket or a plastic
tarp on the outside of tent. Also, cover any screens in the tent
roof with towels, etc. Keep heater outside of tent and tarp. Do
not put tarp above heater.
STEP 9
If the push button fails to ignite
replace AA battery or insert match
or lighter flame in manual ignition
hole on the back side of heater then
slowly OPEN gas valve.

CAUTION
STEP 5
Place input air hose with fan away from
all vehicle exhaust and fumes. Elevate fan
and output air hose off ground. Also, air
hose end with fan can be placed inside
tent to recirculate air. Do not obstruct the
flow of air near bottom or top of heater.
Keep clear of rotating fan when fan is on!
WARNING - SYSTEM GETS HOT DURING USE:
Allow system to cool
before handling. Do not place any items on or near heater. Keep children
& pets clear of heater when operating. Operate only outdoors in well
ventilated areas clear of any flammable vapors & material and any exhaust
or fumes. For best performance, shield system from wind and use full
propane tanks stored at room temperature.
DO NOT USE SYSTEM INDOORS:
The X-40 Vent, like all propane devic-
es, generate deadly, odorless, carbon monoxide fumes when operating.
The X-40 Vent is designed for outdoor use only. Do NOT operate the X-40
Vent inside boats, RVs, tents, homes or other confined areas. Use only
outdoors in well ventilated areas away from flammable materials, vapors,
fumes or exhaust. Only the end(s) of the flexible air hose(s) should enter
the tent.
Do not operate unattended. X-40 Vent is designed for
temporary heating only. Do not sleep with X-40 Vent operating.
BEFORE EACH USE:
Prior to each use, completely inspect your X-40
Vent internal heating tubes and heating tube flanged ends for damage. Do
not use your X-40 Vent if the heating tubes are damaged.
CONNECTING PROPANE:
This product uses propane gas. Propane gas
can explode, burn and is a fire hazard. Propane gas is heavier than air and
can accumulate in low areas. Never store propane indoors or near any
heat source, near any open flames, near any pilot light, in direct sun light,
near any ignition source or where temperatures exceed 120°F. Dispose
of empty gas cylinders in a safe and responsible manner. Always attach
& detach gas cylinder outdoors away from flames, other ignition sources
& only when heater is cool to touch. If propane cylinder has a protective
cap, remove protective cap. Check that propane cylinder and fittings are
clean and free of dirt and debris. Turn off propane gas valve, connect
X-40 gas regulator to the propane tank until connection is tight. Do NOT
overtighten. Check for leaks at connection of regulator to tank with soapy
water (see below).
TESTING FOR GAS LEAKS:
To ensure safety, test for propane leaks
before using X-40 Vent. Never use flame to check for leaks. With propane
valve turned completely off and propane connected to X-40 Vent,
apply soapy water (1 part liquid detergent to 3 parts water) around area
where the gas valve connects to the propane. Bubbles near propane
connection indicate leaks. If bubbles are present, ensure the propane
connection is not crossthreaded. Check that propane cylinder connection
is tight. Repeat process (test for leaks) until no leaks are present. If leaks
persist, do not use product, but contact Zodi.
WINDY CONDITIONS:
The X-40 Vent is designed to be operated in calm
conditions with wind less than 5 mph. In windy conditions the burner
flame will be extinguished. If flame is extinguished, immediately turn
propane burner off. X-40 is NOT intended to be operated during sleeping
periods.
INPUT TUBE UP-WIND:
Always keep the input air hose and fan away
from vehicle exhaust, generators and other sources of carbon monoxide
or any fueled exhaust.
Only the ends of the air hoses
should enter tent.
Heater must always be securely positioned outdoors when heating
.
ADJUST OUTPUT AIR TEMPERATURE:
Adjust air temperature with gas
control knob located on front of X-40 Vent near bottom of panel. If air is
too hot, reduce gas flow using propane valve. If air is not hot enough,
increase gas flow using propane valve on front of X-40 Vent or recycle air.
RECYCLE AIR:
To recycle air, place both input and output air hose
ends inside tent (KEEP X-40 HOT VENT OUTSIDE). Keep output
air hose away from heat sensitive items and fabrics. Keep clear of
fan when fan is on. BTU output varies and may reach up to 40,000
BTU dependent upon altitude, atmospheric conditions, outside
temperature, and propane level and temperature. Cold and empty
propane tanks decrease performance. Also, fully charged batteries
and different 12 Volt power sources may result in higher flows of air,
causing lower output air temperatures. For best performance, use a
full propane tank stored at room temperature. High altitude can result
in lower output air temperatures. Do not use in wind.
FLEXIBLE AIR HOSES:
The air hoses are flexible for storage and
convenience. For best performance minimize bends in air hoses
when heating by keeping air hoses as straight as possible. If longer
air hoses are needed, always use Zodi supplied air hoses. Heating
performance will drop with longer air hoses. The output air hose and
X-40 Vent get very hot when in use and may cause damage to certain
materials. For best performance, wrap the output air hose with a
small towel or sock where air hose enters tent. The towel will protect
the zipper and will also keep cold air from entering the tent around
air hose. USE CAUTION WHEN REPOSITIONING AIR HOSES OR
HEATER. Keep heater and air hoses clear of temperature sensitive
materials including tent floors, sleeping bags or clothing. Zodi is
not responsible for damage. Air hoses must be completely attached
to metal sleeves on X-40 Vent whenever heater is operating. After
prolonged use, the air hose ends may harden and may need trimming
before next use. Do NOT use plastic or third party air hoses. Flexible
air hoses should be replaced with each season. See www.zodi.com
for replacement air hoses. Attach flexible air hoses to heater and turn
ON fan by connecting to 12 Volt power source. You should NOT be
able to feel any air blowing from sealed heating area, only from the
end of the air tube (air will be cold because heater is OFF.) If fan does
not operate, confirm battery clips are connect to battery properly (red
to (+) and black to (-) or try new 12 Volt power source.
REMOVING PROPANE FROM UNIT:
Only attach or detach gas
cylinder outdoors, away from flames and ignition sources, after
the heater has cooled completely. To remove propane from your
shower, untwist propane regulator on X-40 from valve on propane
tank until fully removed. Replace protective cap on propane tank.
Store propane outdoors. Read manufacturer’s directions on propane
cylinder for other warnings.
CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS:
Clean outside of housing and
flexible air hoses using a soft damp c h and only when completely
cool. Never submerge heater in water. Check tubes before each use.
STORAGE:
Disconnect propane cylinder from heater before and
during transport or storage. For added protection, wrap heater in
towel before storing in storage bag. Store heater in storage bag
to prevent dust and insects from clogging burner during storage.
Damaged and torn storage bags and fans are not covered by
warranty. Always store propane outdoors - see propane warnings.

Due to the harsh conditions product may be
exposed to, there is no warranty on electronic components including
electronic ignition and fan. Never modify, alter or use with any part or
device not approved by Zodi.
