TROUBLESHOOTING POWER PACK AND CHARGER
SAFETY INTERLOCKS
If the BMS detects a serious internal fault, it can take either or both of two actions to prevent damage to the
Z-Force pack:
1. Throttle-Disable
When installed in a motorcycle, the BMS can disable the throttle-control. The BMS will disable the
throttle if the pack is empty, or if the BMS detects certain serious internal problems. You cannot
ride the bike until the problem is resolved.
2. Charger-Disable
The BMS will prevent charging if it detects certain serious internal problems — even if the pack
is connected to a charger and plugged-in to AC power. The pack cannot be charged until the
problem is resolved.
THE THROTTLE-DISABLE INTERLOCK
The BMS communicates with the main bike-control module. The BMS can send a signal to the main bike-
controller requesting that the throttle-control on the bike be disabled. When the throttle-control is disabled, the
drivetrain will not deliver power to the rear wheel. The bike cannot be ridden. If the throttle is disabled while
riding, the bike will cease to provide power, and the rider must pull over to the side of the road immediately.
All conditions which would cause the BMS to disable the throttle (listed below) are also signaled by an error-
beep pattern at self-test. If you suspect that the BMS has disabled the throttle control on your bike, turn the
ignition key-switch off and back on again. The beep-pattern from the BMS will report any of the error-conditions
which would cause the BMS to disable the throttle.

section Understanding Beep Sequences (page 34).
