3.1.1. RiverSurveyor “Standard” System
Users with multiple deployment requirements commonly select the
“Standard” RiverSurveyor system (
Figure 3-1
). This is because all the
electronics are self-contained in a robust housing. This system can be
easily deployed in a downward-looking configuration from a moving
vessel for current and river profiling (
Figure 3-2
), or mounted looking
upwards from the river bottom to profile velocities from a fixed position.
The RiverSurveyor “Standard” system includes:
•
A standard ADP in a pressure-rated aluminum housing with an inter-
nal compass/pitch/roll sensor
•
10-m power and serial communication cable
•
24-volt DC power supply (110/220 VAC input required)
•
RiverSurveyor acquisition and post-processing software (
Section 7
)
•
Tool kit
Typical options available for the RiverSurveyor “Standard” system include:
•
Pressure sensor
•
Internal recorder
•
Internal or external battery packs
•
40-inch fiberglass trimaran hulls and integrated radio telemetry
•
Inflatable kayak
Typical operating characteristics and configurations for the RiverSurveyor “Standard” system:
•
Available frequencies: 250 kHz, 500 kHz, 1.0 MHz, 1.5 MHz, 3.0 MHz
•
Lower frequencies allow for “deeper” profiling (see
Table 3-1
for comparison)
•
Easily deployed in upward or downward-looking orientations
•
Operates on 12-24 VDC input power
