B-1.  Files Created during Data Collection 

The files created by 

RiverSurveyor

 during data collection are: 

• 

ADP Binary Data File (.adp) 

• 

Discharge Configuration File (.cfg) 

• 

Additional Sensor Data File (.rsd) 

When post-processing data, it is important to have these files available (if applicable) to make 
sure that required data is available for use in calculations. These files are typically stored to the 
folder defined in 

File|Configuration|

Save Files To Path

. The default folder is 

c:\SonData

; how-

ever, we recommend using an application-specific path such as 

c:\SonData\RiverSurveyor\Colorado River\2003-03-05

. 

All these files are in a proprietary binary format. As such, these file types cannot be directly im-
ported into other programs for processing (e.g., MATLAB and Microsoft Excel cannot be used). 

B-1.1  ADP Binary Data File (.adp) 

The ADP binary data file is created when the 

Record

 button is clicked during data collection. 

This data file has the extension 

.adp

 and is in a SonTek proprietary binary format. This 

means that only SonTek software, such as 

ViewADP

 and 

RiverSurveyor

, can read these files. 

B-1.2  Discharge Configuration File (.cfg) 

This data file contains all the information related to discharge parameters such as the edge dis-
tances and discharge coefficients. This file has the extension 

.cfg

 and is in a SonTek proprietary 

binary format. This file can only be read by the 

RiverSurveyor

 program. 

B-1.3  Additional Sensor Data File (.rsd) 

This data file contains all of the data received from additional sensors such as a GPS receiver or 
an echo sounder. This data file has the extension 

.rsd

 and is in a proprietary binary format. 

This file is created when the
