SECTION 3 – HANDLING, STORAGE, INSTALLATION AND REASSEMBLY
INSPECTION
The unit must be inspected prior to customer use by a
Johnson Controls Service representative. All damage
or possible damage must be reported to the transporta-
tion company. For more information, see
INSPECTION WINDOW
The inspection window of the exhaust gas duct or
chimney must not be in an area that is easily accessible.
If the exhaust gas duct or chimney has a problem from
a unit failure or exhaust gas deterioration, it may affect
the window. If the window must be installed in an eas-
ily accessible area, install a guard fence around it.
If you need to use the inspection window,
please make sure the chiller-heater and
exhaust gas generator system (such as a
gas engine) are NOT operating.
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
Exhaust gas duct fittings must be installed by a quali-
fied contractor. Defective exhaust gas duct work can
cause an oxygen-deficient accident or a fire.
When evacuating the nitrogen charge from the factory,
be sure the area is properly ventilated. Failure to do this
could result in suffocation.
When exhaust gas is emitted from the smokestack, do
not let it mix with the cooling water in the cooling tow-
er. Lower quality cooling water may result in corrosion
and scale formation.
As sulfides and carbides in the exhaust gas condense,
low temperature corrosion may occur. This may result
in tube perforations. Complications and a serious ac-
cident may occur as a result.
The smokestack and cooling tower must be placed at
least 5 meters apart. Wherever possible, the smoke-
stack should be positioned downwind of the cooling
tower.
Each chiller-heater MUST have its own
chimney or exhaust gas duct. If two or
more chiller-heaters share a chimney,
there is a significant risk of exhaust gas
getting into a stopped chiller-heater, or
rust getting into a heat exchanger's parts.
STRUCTURAL SUPPORT AND INSTALLATION
Structural support of the unit must be provided for
maximum efficiency. Maintain adequate maintenance
space around the chiller-heater. Foundation bolts must
be installed in level concrete to secure the unit and pre-
vent shifting.
It is the customer's responsibility to furnish the founda-
tion bolts, nuts and washers. Rubber vibration isolator
pads must be fitted to the unit base before installation.
See
. The tolerance for leveling
is 1 inch in 1,000 inches or 1 mm in 1,000 mm.
Waterproof the floor on which the unit will
be installed in case of future leaks.
Apply thermal insulation to the chiller-heater. Refer to
the installation instructions and
.
Be sure to install insulation on the exhaust gas duct
outer cover to prevent burns or a fire. A barrier fence
to prevent access may be used instead.
Dimensions can be found in
For the external dimensions of
the unit and foundation, see the full view of the unit
and the foundation drawing.
For serviceability and maintenance, leave a minimum
of 1,000 mm space on all sides of the chiller-heater. To
ensure there is adequate clearance for tube removal,
the space at the end should equal 1.25 x the length of
the unit.
INDOOR AND OUTDOOR INSTALLATION
This chiller-heater is designed to be used indoors. Ex-
posure to the elements may compromise the integrity
of the thermal insulation. The minimum allowable
temperature for outdoor installation is 0°C, provided
that the chiller-heater includes the cold ambient option.
Outdoor installations will be considered on a case-by-
case basis by a Johnson Controls Service Represen-
tative. Proper instruction for installation will be pro-
vided at that time.
