REMOVING THE STARTER CLUTCH

1. Remove:

•

Starter clutch screw “1”

TIP

While holding the side of the clutch housing “2”
with the sheave holder “3” as shown, remove the
starter clutch screws “1”.

CHECKING THE STARTER CLUTCH

1. Check:

•

Starter clutch roller “1”
Damage/wear



Replace.

2. Check:

•

Starter clutch gear “1”

•

Damper assembly “2”
Burrs/chips/roughness/wear



Replace the

defective part(s).

3. Check:

•

Starter clutch gear’s contacting surfaces
Damage/pitting/wear



Replace the starter

clutch gear.

4. Check:

•

Starter clutch operation
a. Install the starter clutch gear “1” onto the

primary driven gear “2” and hold the pri-
mary driven gear.

b. When turning the starter clutch gear clock-

wise “A”, the starter clutch and the starter
clutch gear should engage, otherwise the
starter clutch is faulty and must be re-
placed.

c. When turning the starter clutch gear coun-

terclockwise “B”, it should turn freely, oth-
erwise the starter clutch is faulty and must
be replaced.

1. Install:

•

Primary driven gear “1”

TIP

Install the primary driven gear “1” so that the por-
tion “a” as shown faces to the starter clutch side.
