Silencer case air filter element

To replace the air filter element

1. Remove the fuel tank. (See steps

1–3 under “Air filter case ele-
ment”.)

2. Remove the silencer case air filter

cover by removing the screws.

3. Remove the silencer case air filter

element.

4. Install a new air filter element by in-

serting it into the air filter case.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the air filter ele-
ment is properly seated in the
air filter case.

The engine should never be op-
erated without the air filter ele-
ment installed, otherwise the
piston(s) and/or cylinder(s) may
become excessively worn.

5. Install the silencer case air filter

cover by installing the screws.

6. Install the fuel tank. (See steps

16–18 under “Air filter case ele-
ment”.)

Checking the throttle cable 
free play 

The throttle cable free play should mea-
sure 4.0–6.0 mm (0.16–0.24 in) at the
throttle grip. Periodically check the
throttle cable free play and, if neces-
sary, have a Yamaha dealer adjust it.
