BEFORE OPERATION
1) The max. capacity of the jack is indicated on the
decal plate.
2) Ensure that the load to be lifted is not greater than the
rated capacity of the jack.
OPERATION: LIFTING THE LOAD
1. AJH and JAH models: 20, 30, 60, 100 ton
can be operated in 2 positions:
a) in vertical position, as usual;
b) in horizontal position, with the front face down
(operating lever upwards)
2. AJH and JAH models: 20, 30, 60, 100 ton
are equipped with 2 safety features:
a) internal pressure valve to protect the jack from
overload during operation.
b) a stroke limitation device, to stop the piston in the
end position, leading the pressurized oil back to the
reservoir.
3. AJS-65, AJS-104, JAS-103 and JAS-105
can be operated in any position, also upside down.
These jacks are equipped with a stop ring for piston
stop, spring return and pressure valve to avoid
overloading.
1) Do not use jacks with eccentric loads or place jack at
edges.
2) To close the relief valve positioned at the front of the
jack, turn the valve clockwise with the operation lever.
The relief valve should be hand-tight only.
DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN AS THIS CAN DAMAGE
THE VALVE SEAT.
3) Position the jack under the load safely.
4) Adjust screw extension to eliminate space between the
jack and the load.
5) Position the lever in the pump socket and begin
pumping to raise the load.
OPERATION: LOWERING THE LOAD
1) To open the relief valve positioned at the front of the
jack, turn the valve anti-clockwise, using the operation
lever.
2) The speed at which the jack lowers is in direct
proportion to the speed at which the valve is opened.
3) Before lowering a load, ensure that all personnel are
clear of the danger zone.
IMPORTANT POINTS
1) Jacks should not be subjected to eccentric loads.
2) Check oil level regularly, do not overfill the reservoir,
see marks at dipstick.
3) Clean the piston before retraction when piston is
contaminated.
4) Oil film on the piston is not always a leakage, it can be
sticking
oil from the piston. In this case check if load lowers by
leakage with closed relief valve.

5) Important:
During lifting- and lowering operation press now and
then the push-putton on the filler cap. This eliminates
the vacuum in the reservoir. Continual pumping after
ram has reached full stroke may result in a little oil
seeping from top of the ram. This is not detrimental.
If the leak is excessive then the ram packing should be
replaced.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1) Ensure that jack is on solid ground, with the total base
supported. If the ground is not solid, use a steel plate
to support the load. The load must rest on total surface
of piston-saddle or lifting claw.
2) Never use the jack on its edge or diagonally.
3) If the load is to be left in the raised position, use
packing pieces as additional support.
4) Do not drop loads on the piston or the pump plunger.
5) Jacks are fitted with internal pressure valve to prevent
overloading by pumping.
6) Remove operating lever when not in use.
7) Do not use damaged or leaking jacks.
8) Do not lift or lower loads when personell or other
equipment are under the load or in danger zone.
9) The operator is responsible at all times for safety
precautions.
CHECKING OIL LEVEL
Check the oil level regularly by retracting the piston fully,
placing the jack in a vertical position and carefully
removing the oil- filler plug. For the oil level see marks at
dipstick. Top-up as necessary, but do not over-fill. Only
use high quality Yale hydraulic oil to Class ISO 32.
BLEEDING AIR FROM THE SYSTEM
In case the piston feels "spongy" during operation, air may
have entered the pressure system. To remove air from the
system, open the relief valve, operate the pumping
mechanism several times, close the relief valve and
advance the piston without load. Turn the jack upside
down, open the relief valve and push the piston closed.
Repeat until all the air is removed. After carrying out the
air bleeding procedure, check the oil level.
Jacks with lifting claws:
1. Take care of the maximum permitted load of the claw
(40 % of the jack capacity) .
2. Check that claw is propperly hooked in on top of the
piston. Only use claw in upright position.
3. Lifting claws cannot be combined with jacks with
safety lock nut.
4. Jacks must have an extended base when used with
lifting claws.
Jacks with safety lock nuts:
1. These jacks cannot be operated with lifting claws.
2. Avoid side loading.
3. Protect jack from dirt, sand and humidity. Please note
that this particular design cannot be equipped with a
dirt wiper.
