Wiring
The screw type terminals located on electrical terminals within the VLI detector will accept wire sizes from 0.2
mm² to 2.5 mm² (30 – 12 AWG).
Refer to Codes and Standards Information for Air Sampling Smoke Detection on page iii for code specific
requirements.
Refer to the VESDA System Design Manual for cabling details.
Note:
The VLI detector is IP54 rated, therefore an IP54 compliant cable gland must be used to maintain
the IP54 rating.
Caution:
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions need to be taken prior to removing the front cover
from the detector in order to prevent damage to sensitive electronic components within the VLI.
3.2.1
Cabling Inlets
The VESDA VLI contains four inlets for power, relay and network cabling, located on the upper and lower
sides of the detector base. The holes have a diameter of 25.4mm (1 inch).
Note:
To maintain the specified IP rating, IP54-compliant cable glands must be used.

3.2.2
Power Source
There are two sets of power terminals on the main board. Connect to a 24 VDC power supply to the
PWR IN socket, and if required loop out to another detector via the PWR OUT socket.
The detector will not operate if the power supply polarity is reversed.
Caution:
Operating the detector when DC supply voltage is outside the specified voltage range may
cause damage to internal components. For further information refer to the Product
Specifications on page 11.
