13.2 Internet access

Type of Internet connection.

What type of Internet connection do you have

There are various types of Internet connection.The wizard will help you if you are
connected to one of the following:

•

ISDN PPP dial-up connection using synchronous PPP. This is the standard
method for accessing the Internet offered by almost any provider.

•

ADSL dial-up connection using the PPP over Ethernet protocol.

•

Ethernet connection via an external router. If you have a leased line this is
most likely the appropriate scenario. Usually the provider installed a router
which makes the Internet available with an Ethernet connection. Note that a
connection to an ADSL leased line is usually also made via a router installed
by the provider.

Make sure you have the following information at hand. Otherwise ask your ISP:

•

Dial-in number (ISDN dial-up only)

•

Login and password (ISDN and ADSL dial-up only)

•

IP address and netmask of router and for SX-GATE (Ethernet connection
only)

•

IP of provider name server (DNS)

•

Mail relay server of provider (optional)

•

Proxy server of provider (optional)

What type of Internet connection do you have
