About Emulation
This chapter explains ESC/P emulation of print languages available on this printer.
Print data conforms to certain rules (grammar). These rules (grammar) are called print
language.
This printer supports a page description language used to create images on a page basis
and an emulation feature used to obtain the print result similar to that obtained by another
printer. The ability to obtain the print result similar to that obtained by another printers is
called emulation.
Note
• The ESC/P emulation mode can be used when the SC/TC Font ROM (optional) is installed.
Emulation Mode
When printing data written in a language other than the page description language
supported by this printer, place this printer in the emulation mode. This printer has more
than one emulation mode. The following table summarizes the relationship between the
ESC/P emulation mode and the printer type to be emulated.
Host Interface and Emulation
Different host interfaces support different print languages. Host interfaces that support print
languages are as follows:
• Parallel port
• Serial port
• LPD port
• NetWare port
• SMB port
• IPP port
• USB port
• Port9100 port
