RAP 5.1: Doc and Read Point
Sensor
See Parts List 1.1.
This RAP tests the function of the two doc
and read point sensors located in the scanner
(also known as ADF sensors).
1. Remove the machine cover (REP 1.1:
WorkCentre Cover on page 4-3).
2. Check the wiring harness connected to
ADF on the scanner relay board (see
Figure 2-19).

Result: Wiring harness securely
attached to connector ADF?
No:
Correct the condition.
Yes:
Continue with Step 3.
3. Check the doc and read point sensors for
binding or jamming (see Figure 2-20).

Result: Switches operate freely?
No:
Correct the condition, or replace the
switch assembly
(REP 4.1.5: Doc and Read Point Sensor Assembly on page 4-35).
Yes:
Continue with Step 4.
4. Unlatch the front panel from the scanner. Hold down the
scanner cover open switch and power on the machine.
Keep the switch depressed.
5. In the Service Menu, perform the Sensors
Test.
6. Press down on the Doc switch (upper switch).
Result: Sensor test indicates “ADF sensor” (H)IGH?
No:
Replace the doc and read point sensor assembly
(REP 4.1.5: Doc and Read Point Sensor Assembly on page 4-35).
Yes:
Continue with Step 7.
7. Press down on the read point switch.
