ckung an uns zurückzugeben.
dampf voraus„!
Important information and safety precautions!
1. For safety reasons, children should only use the
Steam
Engine
under
supervision
of
adults
(recommended age: from 8 years). While the Marine
Steam Engine is running and until the complete
cooling, the Steam Engine must be under constant
observation.
2. Each irregularity in the course of the running of the
Marine Steam Engine can be carried out by a competent
and authorized person or by WILESCO themselves.
Otherwise any guarantee expires.
3. Any unauthorized alteration, repair or manipulation to the standard specification
will also invalidate the guarantee unless the damage is a production fault.
4. The parts which are under steam pressure, as boiler, spring loaded safety valve
etc. leave our premises only after a 100% control. The spring loaded safety valve
has not to be manipulated. The running of the Steam Engine without any spring
loaded safety valve is not authorized. The spring loaded valve must be checked
before each running with a pression on the spring or a small pull on the upper valve
rod. If lime residues through hard water are on the spring loaded valve, the valve
must be changed immediately.
5. High temperatures: the principles on which your Steam Engine operates mean
that the burner system, the boiler, the boiler housing, the spring loaded safety valve,
the steam pipes etc. become very hot. Do not touch in order to avoid the risk of
burns.
Caution: Don't operate the steam model near flammable objects or on tempe-
rature-sensitive surfaces.
6. Gas tank: the gas tank is pressurised and must be protected from excessive heat
and from the sunshine. Never refill near a naked flame or when smoking. Never
try to force open the gas tank or throw into a fire, even when empty.
7. Ingniting the gas burner
If the following assembly sequence (detailed description under point
13, starting up procedure) is not observed in this order, the boat can be
damaged.
a. Fill the gas tank in accordance with the instructions and insert the
closed gas tank with the valve into the mounting.
b. Light a match (or use a lighter with a high flame) and hold it into the
round opening of the burner chamber.
c. Open the gas regulating valve slowly and only with an effective fire.
d. When the flame is visible, adjust it to the required heigh using the gas regulating
valve.
Consequences if these points are not followed: if the gas valve is opened before
applying the light, the gas can escape into the ship’s hull and explode (shooting
flame), which could damage the ship or burn somebody.
8. Safety precautions: in the course of the running, take care that children do not
touch any of the moving parts.
9. Danger if the boiler is heated without enough water! Always
ensure that the Steam Engine has enough water in the boiler while
running. The water must be visible always at least at the lower end
of the sight glass, otherwise the joints become leaking and the boiler
will be destructed. Any following claim, damage or consequential
damage cannot be accepted. If a leak occurs in the boiler or any other
part where water or steam escape, stop the Steam Engine
immediately. Any necessary repair should be carried out by authorized trained
staff or at the WILESCO company.
10. The Steam Engine meets all safety standards and actual regulations. Every
boiler has been submitted to a bursting pressure and water test of 5 bar. The
operating pressure is maximally 1,5 bar.
11. Keep the operating instructions with your Steam Engine.
Assembly hints
12. We recommend to fix the engine to a steady surface. When using a plastic ship
hull, there should be an approx. 10 cm high gap between the base of the boiler
housing and the ship's bottom. The base of the gas tank should be assembled in
such a way that the gaz nozzle is in a central position from the edge of the burner
funnel, at a distance of 0 - 1 mm. The drive unit has to be fitted as required. The
loose brackets supplied with the accessories must be fitted in order to secure the
aggregate as follows. First screw one bracket to the fixing plate of the aggregate
base. The fixing plate ensures that the aggregate lies at the centre of gravity in any
oblique position. Then fit the second bracket temporary in order to mark-out the
screw holes for fixing it to the ship's base. Then dismantle again and secure the
second bracket with the screws to the ship's hull in the marked out positions. With
the interlocking of the brackets, the two brackets can be tightenend by the centre
screw, at the required angle.
We recommend to keep the distance between the boiler and the assembly as short
as possible. The steam connections to the unit (inlet/outlet) are interchangeable
(also see additional explanation under item 14, operation).
When installing the boiler housing in the ship, ensure that sufficient fresh air can
enter the burner chamber so that the gas can burn perfectly. This is also necessary
for the heat circulation and the escape of the burning gas.
It is possible to operate the reversing lever of the unit with a servo (regulating
motor) and the corresponding rods.
13. Starting-up procedure
Before each running, the assembly should be lubricated at the two steam
jet oilers. For this, remove the oil caps. No steam pressure should be
present in the boiler. Exsisting steam pressure must be released by
opening the spring loaded safety valve. Furthermore the reversing lever
should be in the neutral position (vertical upwards). When filling with
WILESCO steam engine oil, turn the flywheel with the operating lever in
the open position (to the left or right) so that the oil is drawn in.
All of the bearings and linkages should be oiled with Wilesco Steam Engine oil.
Before each filling of the boiler check through operating the spring loaded safety
valve that no steam pressure is in the boiler. Unscrew the spring loaded valve and
the oil cap and fill the boiler with the funnel approx. to the 3/4 (upper edge of the
water gauge glass), if possible with warm water. Do not overfill the boiler! The
funnel should raise slightly so that the air can escape from the boiler. Use only
deficient in lime water or, better, water without any lime (e.g. distilled water).
Screw the steam whistle and the oil cap again onto the boiler.
The separate gas tank should be filled with butane gas/lighter gas, only when
the regulating valve is shut. For safety reasons, fill the gas tank only out of it's
mounting support.
The inlet valve of the gas tank fits all standard EURO-gas filler valves.
Caution: Do not fill the tank near naked flames, or when smoking. Do not use
force when closing the regulating valve as the sealing surface of the valve will be
damaged.
After having filled the gas tank, replace it into it's mounting. To light the burner,
first of all insert a burning match through the round opening of the housing. Only
then, when the match is burning, open slowly the gas regulating valve until the gas
burns. The flame is infinitely variable using the regulating valve. Before the gas
tank is refilled, the boiler must be refilled. During the starting up procedure, the
reversing lever should be in the neutral position (vertical upwarts).
14. Operation
After approx. 5 minutes the assembly unit will be operational through moving the
reversing lever to the right or the left. Should the steam engine fail to start on it's
own when sufficient steam pressure is present, turn the flywheel by hand so that the
condensation in the pipes and cylinders can escape. When starting the assembly
unit the gas flame should be readjusted. The speed in comparison between the right
/ left operation is different so that the speed is lower for the reverse. Should this be
inverted, (i.e. reverse speed faster) then the steam connections to the assembly unit
should be switched over.
The condensation water can be channelled into a collecting tank underneath the
ship's chimney, from which the smoke resulting of the steam can escape.
15. After the use of the Steam Engine and its cooling, the Engine should be
serviced. Pour out any water left in the boiler. For this, unscrew the spring loaded
valve and take off all of the loose parts before tipping over the Engine. Be very
careful if the water is still hot! Any water left in the boiler cannot do any damage,
but might leave sediment on the sight glass. Any lime formation on the sight glass
or in the boiler have not to be removed in any case using vinegar or corrosive
agent (advise: use a lime dissolving agent which does not attack the brass and the
solder). The building of sood on the lower side of the boiler does not influence the
function and can be removed with a brush. Finally, dry the model using a clean
cloth.
Guarantee:
16. All WILESCO Steam Engines are carefully checked before leaving the factory.
However if a problem arises, we will help you or carry out repairs. You can return
the Steam Engine to a specialized distributor or directly to WILESCO, free of
charge. We are sure you will understand that already fired or used models
cannot be exchanged for new ones. The most frequent claims are leaking boilers.
The solder will be destroyed if it is too many water in the boiler. In such cases, the
solder liquefy drop-shaped and the boiler becomes leaking. This is an obvious
proof that the boiler was fired with too many water. Please watch always
carefully the water level, because the heating with too many water excludes
any demand for guarantee.
This Steam Engine is only meant for the above discribed function. Technical
data can be amended without prior notice.
WILESCO wish you a lot of pleasure with your Steam Engine and "full steam
ahead "!
