and rotate clockwise to lock. If your receiver is mounted on an antenna, use the short
cable coming from the receiver jack at lower back. Attach that cable's BNC Connector to
the
gamma match
on the middle element of the 3-element antenna immediately behind
the receiver. Fit the BNC Connector to the gamma match, push in and rotate clockwise
to lock.
3. Adjust GAIN or volume control until a low hissing noise comes from the speaker.
Always try to keep your GAIN as
low
as possible.
4. Use CHANNEL selector to choose the channel on which your transmitter's signal will
come in. For the exact channel that will broadcast your transmitter collar's signal, see
frequency range chart taped to the receiver's exterior.
5. Rotate the TUNE CONTROL from left to right, from -5 to O (zero) to +5, to refine the
signal strength and get the clearest tone. For instance, collar frequency numbers
ending in 5 will come in best at center channel or O. Collar numbers ending in 1 or 2 will
come in best near -5; collars ending in 8 or 9 will come in best near +5. To fine tune for
best
range, play
with the TUNE Control until you locate the place on the dial where
each collar performs best.
6. Adjust GAIN control or volume. At first, turn up the volume to bring in the transmitter
signal. After you hear the signal, turn GAIN as
LOW
as possible (the beeping signal
may sound best when it is a high chirp, a faucet drip or a dull thump, depending on your
hearing ability). When your directional antenna is pointed at the transmitter wearer, your
Gain is LOW but you can still hear signal, and the meter needle stays below 6 on the
meter, you will get the best signal
direction.
As you move closer to the transmittered
animal, keep adjusting the GAIN LOWER to retain the best directional signal and to
avoid swamping.
7. If the signal comes at you equally from all directions, overload or swamping is
occurring. Use the ATTENUATOR circuitry by pushing the toggle switch to ATTEN ON.
This attenuator brings the signal in strongly from one direction, allowing accurate
direction finding when the operator's receiver is close to the transmittered animal.
When the animal wearing the transmitter moves out to a greater distance, turn the
toggle switch from ATTEN. ON to MAX RANGE ON or to receiver OFF (the center
position).
8. Receivers are shipped from Wildlife Materials, Inc. with
a full charge
, which
lasts
about 6 hours
of tracking. To charge, insert recharger plug into the recharge jack at the
upper back
of receiver.
Make sure the power switch is OFF when you are charging
the battery
. A
fully
discharged
TRX-10S should be
charged at least 16 hours but no
more than 24 hour
s. After the receiver is fully charged,
recharge for 4 hours for each
hour of operation, up to 24 hours.
9.
Vary your recharge times
to avoid a "memory" buildup. If you recharge 4 hours
each
time, the battery will gradually become good for
only
4 hours of life. Avoid a
recharging pattern to get the most out of a battery. For instance, if you charge for 4
hours one time, use your equipment until a charge of 8-10 hours or 12-14 hours or 16-
20 hours is required the next time.
