10. Next you have to find the vehicle’s reverse lights. Turn the
vehicle’s ignition key to the accessory position, engage the
parking brake and put the car in reverse. Look at the vehicle’s
tail lights to see the reverse lights (the white lights). To locate
the reverse light’s 12V+ wiring, it will be necessary to gain
access to the rear of the vehicle’s tail light. In case of ques-
tions or problems, contact the car dealer or a repair shop.
11. Once you have located the reverse light circuit, run the power
cable of the transmitter box (6) to that location. Make sure the
power cable is securely fastened and cannot be damaged
while opening and closing the trunk hinge.
Never run the
cable outside along the vehicle.
12. On most vehicles two wires are connected to the reverse light
socket. Usually the negative wire is black and the positive
wire is red. If you are uncertain about the wiring, use a 12 Volt
multimeter (available at Westfalia) to determine which one is
the positive and the negative wire.
13. After determining the polarity, turn off the ignition key and
remove the negative cable of the battery. By doing this you
can be sure that the components are voltage-free.
14. Connect the red wire of the 2-pin cable (6) of the transmitter
with the positive wire (+) of the reverse light by using the
supplied cable-clips. Squeeze the cable-clips with pliers to
ensure good connection and attach the red plastic cover (you
have to clips it).
15. Proceed the same way with the black wire of power cable of
the transmitter box (6). Connect the black wire to the negative
wire (-) of the reverse light.
16. If necessary, re-attach the light bulb to the socket and close
the cover. Secure all connections with special cable ties or
tapes.
17. Re-attach the negative battery cable to the battery.
