Bird Gard AVA Suggested Installations

Sound Dispersion

The sound pattern produced by Av-Alarm is shown in Figure 1. Each
speaker enclosure contains one speaker which is phased for
optimum sound pressure dispersion. The sound is directional and
pancake shaped.

For adequate bird control, sound intensity must be above ambient
background noise which is 70 decibels or greater. One BG AVA
speaker produces 70 decibels of sound intensity at 150 meters
(500 feet) away from the face of the speaker. Sound intensity to
the sides and rear of each speaker is small.

Placement

BG AVA units are specifically designed to allow the greatest
possible flexibility in positioning and placement. It is
important to project the sounds outward as projecting sounds
inward might tend to trap birds in the area you are trying to
protect. Strong prevailing winds can carry BG AVA sounds.
Position upwind when possible.

Effectiveness is not hampered when units are mounted on the top
or sides of barns, silos and other outbuildings, on fence posts,
or on the back of pickup or flatbed trucks.

Height AdJustments

Elevation is very important for best sound dispersion. In most
cases BG AVA units should be about one meter (three feet) above
the top of crops---whether the crop is low-lying like
strawberries, medium height like grapes or blueberries or high
like a mature apple orchard.

For perimeter protection of smaller orchards under two hectares
(five acres), mounting height may be over the crop or possibly
between ground level and the canopy base if adequate trimming or
open space exists for good sound dispersion.

Place speaker units just over the top of your crop for best sound
dispersion.
