Echo Max
The USM 100 usually generates more A-scans per sec-
ond (= PRF) than the screen of the device can display
(= refresh rate of the screen). Therefore, the first A-scan
from the raw data is selected and displayed in the inter-
val of each screen update.
With the Echo Max function switched on and a PRF
higher than the screen refresh rate, the instrument ana-
lyzes all A-scans generated in the respective interval
and displays the maximum amplitude at each of the
1024 individual A-scan points. This feature provides a
high flaw detectability even at high scanning speeds,
both for manual inspection and for automatic inspection
systems.
Since the maximum amplitude at each point is displayed
on the screen, the A-scan waveform will appear wider
than the original waveform.
Example
With a PRF of 1200 Hz, a screen refresh rate of 30 Hz
and the function
Echo Max switched on, 1200/30 = 20
A-scans are analyzed as raw data at each interval. The
highest amplitude at each of the 1024 individual A-scan
points is displayed as a combined A-scan.

All measurement readings are calculated
based on all A-scans per second (= PRF).
