Pulser Width Mode
You can choose between the Auto and the Manual
mode for the pulse width setting.
When you select Auto the function Pulser Width is
locked. The pulse width is calculated and set automati-
cally depending on the frequency of the probe.
When the frequency of the probe is changed, the pulse
width is automatically reset. If the frequency of the probe
is higher than 15 MHz, the
Pulser Mode (see page 139)
is set to Spike , and the pulser width is set to 30 ns, the
minimum value for the pulse width, to achieve good per-
formance.
Select Manual to set the Pulser Width .
Pulser Width
You can use this function to adjust the pulse width for
the square wave pulser. You can adjust a value within
the range of 40 … 2500 ns (nanoseconds) in steps of
10 ns.
The following equation produces an approximation for
the suitable pulse width:
Nominal width in nanoseconds
= 500/probe frequency in MHz
For example, the equation for a 2.25 MHz probe results
in:
Nominal width in nanoseconds
= 500/2.25 ns = 222 nanoseconds
Note
The pulser voltage and the pulse width can
be automatically limited, depending on the
pulse repetition frequency mode (see
PRF
Mode , page 139) or setting (see PRF Value ,
page 139). This function helps to avoid heat
accumulations in the pulser electronics.
