7.2.2.2 Verify the Communications Port
Prior to launching HyperTerminal, verify the communications (COM) port used on the
laptop.
1. From the laptop’s desktop, right-click the My Computer icon.
2. Click Properties .
3. Click Device Manager. The Device Manager appears.
4. Expand the Ports list item and write down the Communications Port used.
7.2.2.3 Configure HyperTerminal
1. Launch HyperTerminal from the following path: Start>All
Programs>Accessories>Communication>HyperTerminal; the Default Telnet
Program? dialog box appears.
2. Select Yes to make HyperTerminal the default telnet program (see Figure 7.4); the
Connection Description dialog box appears.

3. Type the connection Name , select a shortcut icon and select OK (see Figure 7.5);
the Connect To dialog box opens.

The Serial Port from the PC typically uses COM Port 1 (COM1). If using a
USB/Serial converter, the Port number may be different.
