The Wampler Cory Wong compressor features two soft footswitches that operate each
function of the pedal. For the Compressor side there is also complete control over Volume,
Sustain, Attack, and Blend as well as Brian Wampler’s signature Tone control which can be
dialed in to add sparkle and chime to your guitar’s tone.
For the boost side there is a single rotary boost control that adjusts the amount of boost
activated and a profile switch that sets the mode of the boost circuit from a flat boost to a rich
saturated boost with an extra vibrancy around the 550Hz range. The Blend control controls
the amount of dry and compressed signal in the compressor circuit.
The Compressor is operated by the independent “Compress” footswitch on the left, the LED
will turn green when active. The Boost is controlled by the independent “Boost” footswitch on
the right and the LED will turn blue when the boost is active. This particular boost was based
on the classic MDX Strat boost style circuitry once favored by Eric Clapton. When both sides
are active, the LED turns Rainbow white. On the right hand side of the pedal there is a “Comp
On” switch which permanently engages the compressor circuit when depressed - useful for a
live environment where you want to really just stomp down for boost. The left hand side has an
XLR socket to go direct to a PA system or mixing board, and a “Ground Lift” switch which can
be used to eliminate unwanted ground noise if it is present when using the XLR output.
Attack
– Controls compression response - counter clockwise for fast attack, clockwise for
slower attack.
Volume
– Adjusts the output level of the Compressor circuit, full clockwise is maximum
volume.
Tone
– Add more presence to your tone by dialing this in clockwise for added brightness.
Blend
– Control the strength of the effect coming through. All the way counterclockwise the
signal is 100% dry but will slowly increase to 100% wet as the controller is rotated clockwise.
Sustaaiin
– Dial in clockwise to add more sustain to your guitar tone to alter how long a note
rings on.
Boost
- Controls level of boost when footswitch is engaged, rotating clockwise increases
gain.
Boost Mode Switch
- Select either a flat frequency or a rich, saturated mid boost.
XLR
- Connect direct to mixing desk / PA / audio interface with a separate XLR cable.
Ground Lift
- Engage this to lift the ground if connecting the XLR adds noise.
Comp On
- Engage this to permanently enable the compressor circuit (bypass becomes
inactive).
Power:
This pedal was designed around the usage of a 9V DC power source only. To
avoid damage to the pedal,
do not exceed 9V DC
, do not use center pin positive
adapters, and do not use AC power. Use only a 9V DC power source that is intended for
guitar pedals. This pedal draws approximately 30mA at 9V.
Lead Tone
Lead Tone
If you are looking to go a bit further with
your lead tones, maybe even into a slightly
dirtier amplifier, this is a great starting
point. Dial that Sustain in a bit higher and
dial back the Blend and Attack a little until
you find that super responsive lead tone.
Use the boost set in Mid mode to add
extra bite.
