5.1 Recommendations for installation, maintenance and cleaning
Danger - Warning
The installation operations have to be carried out by a technician specialised in such activities
Provide appropriate safety measures and use suitable equipment to prevent risk of work accident to the
persons involved in the operations and to those nearby.
Harness and handle the valve concerned as described and shown in the “Unloading and lifting meth
-
od” paragraph.
Before starting installation, define a safety plan which complies with the legislation in force regarding work
-
place safety.
The specialist technician, authorized by the installer or owner, has to evaluate whether the area has been pre-
pared properly and whether the necessary installation equipment is available (crane, etc.).
Clean the coupling surfaces thoroughly.
Setting in safety conditions
Before carrying out any operation on the valve, make sure it is set in safety condition.
Subsequently the following opera tions will be indicated as “setting the valve in safety condition”:
- Make sure the valve and inductive sensors, if any, are disconnected from all the power supplies (if present).
- Wait for the inner and outer temperature of the valve to reach a value not dangerous to the touch.
- Make sure the area around the valve is lighted properly.
- Wait for the powder inside the valve to settle down completely.
- Before opening the valve or carrying out any action, carefully wipe the layers of dust deposited on it.
For any operation to be performed on the valve (maintenance and cleaning), the operators must use the spe-
cial personal protec tion devices (PPD) meant for the purpose.
- Antistatic safety footwear (certi fied).
- Antistatic protective clothing (certified).
- Hard hats
- Antistatic cut-proof gloves.
- Protective masks
- Safety goggles (certified)
In addition, it is necessary to use all the protection devices envis aged by the safety sheet of the material han-
dled.
NOTE:
Do not handle in any manner the valve during operation of the plant (filling or emptying the silos). Do
not insert your limbs inside the VCP valve; operate on the valve only when silo filling/emptying is not
in progress.
If the filling/emptying operation is controlled by a main panel, this must be provided with a safety key against
accidental start-up; the key must be kept by the maintenance operator in charge.
