The power requirements of the EX1200A mainframes are provided in the
Specifications
section of
. As with any backplane-based system where modules share power, such as VXI and
PXI, the possibility exists where certain plug-in module combinations can draw too much power
from a power supply rail. As such, It is imperative that the chassis provide adequate power for the
modules installed. For more information on EX1200A mainframe power consumption, please
refer
. The user should confirm that the power budget for the system (for the chassis
and all modules installed therein) is not exceeded on any voltage line.
It should be noted that if the mainframe cannot provide adequate power to the module, the
instrument might not perform to specification and possibly damage the power supply. In addition,
if adequate cooling is not provided, the reliability of the instrument will be jeopardized and
permanent damage may occur. Damage found to have occurred due to inadequate cooling will
void the warranty on the instrument in question.

OCATION
EX1200As are designed to be largely insensitive to external electrical, magnetic, and thermal
disturbances. However, as with all precision instrumentation, certain precautions, if taken into
consideration, can help achieve maximum performance.
1)
The unit, particularly its front panel, should be located away from sources of high or low
temperatures. When used in a rackmount application with other heat-generating instruments,
EX1200As should be located as far away from the other instruments as possible, 1U
minimum. Multiple EX1200As, however, can be stacked directly on top of one another
without any performance degradation.
2)
Care should be taken to ensure that the fans at the rear and the air vents at the front of the
mainframe are not obstructed to allow for proper cooling.
