Binoculars
Focus the Binocular – Single Diopter Models
For most models, your binocular will be
equipped with a single Diopter on the right-
hand barrel. The Diopter adjustment is part
of the Center Focus wheel on select models.
Select models may also have a Locking
Diopter, which would need to be pulled up,
towards the eyecup to unlock.
Follow this two-step process to properly adjust
the Center Focus and Diopter. Choose an object about 20 yards away
from you and stay in the same spot until you have adjusted the
binocular for your eyes.
1. Adjust the center focus. Start by closing your
right eye or covering the right Objective Lens
with your hand. Look through the left barrel
and adjust the Center Focus wheel until the
image is in focus. Leave the Center Focus in
position as you adjust the Diopter.
2. Adjust the Diopter. Start by closing your
left eye or covering the left objective lens
with your hand. Look through the right barrel
and adjust the Diopter until the object is in
focus. Make note of the Diopter’s position
setting in case you need to set it again. From
this point on, you will only need to use the
Center Focus wheel.
For models equipped with a Locking Diopter, follow the same steps, but before
adjusting the Diopter, unlock it by pulling it up towards the eyecup, and then
adjust the Diopter. Push the Locking Diopter down towards the binocular’s
body to lock.

Focus the Binocular – Dual Diopter Models
For models equipped with Dual Diopters,
focus each eyepiece separately.
1. Start by closing your right eye or
covering the right objective lens with
your hand. Look through the left
barrel and adjust the left Diopter
until the imagine is in focus.
2. Repeat the process for the other eye.
Adjust the Reticle Focus (if equipped)
When you hold the binocular, the Reticle Focus is on the left ocular.
Use this focus to adjust the reticle image so that it is clear and
sharp. Focusing the reticle is most easily done with the right eye
closed while setting the focus. While looking at a white wall or the
sky, adjust the Reticle Focus until you see a clear, sharp image.
The Diopter ring on
each eyecup rotates so
you can adjust each
eyepiece independently.
Once set for a particular
user, the reticle focus
can be left in place.

intense light source. Such viewing can damage your eyes to the point of
causing blindness.
