Configuring Using Telnet Connection
The serial port device can be accessed through the Internet or a local area network via UDP or
TCP. The configuration of the ESERV-10 using Telnet can be carried out over the network by
establishing a connection to port 8001, which is the unit’s predefined network configuration port
number.
Because the Telnet client is pre-installed in the Windows operating systems, the easiest way to run
Telnet is to use the Windows command prompt
or
to click
Start
Æ
Run
and enter telnet, the IP
address of your unit and 8001, for example:
telnet 172.16.8.10 8001
; note the space between the
IP address and the port number. It is also possible to use other Telnet programs.
Note:
Some Telnet programs (for example the Telnet program in Windows 2000) should be
configured to echo typed characters locally (set local_echo). Because this depends on the
Windows version or the Telnet program you are using, please refer to the manual or the
help utilities of the operating system or the Telnet program.
1. Start the Telnet program of your choice and make a contact to the ESERV-10. The
ESERV-10 requires system password (default being
pass
). After entering correct password
the Configuration Mode window appears:
2. Select an option by entering the number or character of the option in the
ESERV-10>
-field
and pressing
Enter
. This will, in general, result in new options related to your choice.
3. Depending on the parameter or the options available,
either
type the value for that
parameter
or
select a proper option number, which modifies the parameter and press
Enter
.
4. After you have finished, save the new configuration and exit (select
E
)
or
discard the
changes by quitting without saving (select
Q
).
