Read Before Use
VETEXPERT BG Vet Blood Glucose Monitoring System the system consists of three main products: the
meter, test strips and control solutions. These products have been designed, tested, and proven to work
together as a system to produce accurate blood glucose test results.
All products are sold separately.
Only use VETEXPERT BG Vet Blood Glucose Test Strips and control
solutions with VETEXPERT BG Vet Blood Glucose Monitoring System.
Intended Use
This system is intended to be used for the quantitative measurement of glucose (sugar) in fresh whole
blood samples. It should not be used as a single test for diagnosis or screening of diabetes mellitus. If
anticoagulant is needed, please use heparin. We do NOT recommend using EDTA or NaF. System allows
animal’s blood glucose levels to be measured by the pet’s owners at home and by veterinarian profession-
als in clinical settings as an aid to monitoring the effectiveness of diabetes control in cats and dogs. This
system provides you with plasma equivalent results and are displayed in milligrams of glucose per deciliter
of blood (mg/dL) or in millimoles of glucose per liter of blood (mmol/L).

BEFORE TESTING
Calibration
You must calibrate the meter every time you begin to use a new vial of test strips by setting the meter with
the correct code. Test results may be inaccurate if the code number displayed on the monitor does not
match the number printed on the strip vial.
How to Code Your Meter
1. Insert the code strip when the monitor is off. Wait until the code number
appears on the display.
Note:
Make sure the code number on display, code strip, and test strip
vial are the same.
2. Remove the code strip, the display will show “OK”. This tells you that the
meter has finished coding and is ready for blood glucose testing.
Checking the Code Number
You need to make sure that the code number displayed on the meter matches
the number on the test strip vial before you proceed. If it matches, you can
proceed with your test. If the codes do not match, please stop testing and
repeat the calibration procedure. If the problem persists contact Customer
Service for help.
NOTICE:
The code number on the display is only for your reference, it may not
be actual code for this meter.
WARNING
It is important to make sure that the LCD displayed code is the same as the code on the test
strip vial before testing. Failure to do so will get inaccurate results. If the LCD displayed code is
not the same as the code on the test strip vial, and the code number cannot be updated, please
contact Customer Service for assistance.
CHECKING THE SYSTEM WITH CONTROL SOLUTIONS
Our Control Solution contains a known amount of glucose that reacts with test strips. By comparing the result of
your control solution test with the expected range printed on the test strip vial label, you can check that the meter
and the test strips are working together as a system and that you are performing the test correctly. It is very
important that you perform this simple check routinely to make sure you get accurate results.
How to perform a control solution test
STEP 1. Insert test strip
Insert a test strip into the test slot with the contact bars
end first and facing up. (Contact bars must be inserted all
the way into the meter or you may get an inaccurate test
result.) The meter turns on automatically and displays
code no., Gen and a flashing “ ”:
When the “ “ symbol appears on the display, press M and
“
QC
” will appear on the display. When the “
QC
” sign is dis-
played, the meter will store your test result in the memory
under
QC
. If you decide not to perform a control solution
test, press
M
again and the “
QC
” sign will disappear.
CAUTION
Every time you perform a control solution test you must enter “QC” test mode so that the
test result will NOT mix with the blood glucose TEST RESULTS stored in the meter memory.
Failure to do so will mix up the blood glucose test results with the control solution test
results in memory.
STEP 2. Apply control solution
Shake the control solution vial thoroughly before use. Squeeze out
the first drop and wipe it off, then squeeze out another drop and
place it on the tip of the vial cap. Hold the meter to move the ab-
sorbent hole of the test strip to touch the drop. Once the confirma-
tion window fills completely, the meter will begin counting down.
To avoid contaminating the control solution, do not directly apply
control solution onto a strip.
STEP 3. Read and compare the results
When the “ “ symbol appears on the display, press
M
and “
QC
” will appear on the display. When
the “
QC
” sign is displayed, the meter will store your test result in the memory under QC. If you decide not to
perform a control solution test, press
M
again and the “
QC
” sign will disappear. After the meter counts to
0, the result of the control solution test will appear. Compare the result with range printed on the test strip
vial. The result should fall within this range.
Out-of-range results
If you continue to have test results fall outside the range printed on the test strip vial, the meter and strips
may not be working properly. Do NOT test your animal’s blood glucose level. Contact the local customer
service for help.
TESTING WITH BLOOD SAMPLE
Preparing the Lancing Device for Blood Testing
(not included)
Please follow the instructions in the lancing device insert for collecting
a blood sample.
STEP 1. Insert the test strip to turn on the meter
Wait for the meter to display code no., Gen and a flashing “ ”.
STEP 2. Select the appropriate measuring mode by pressing M
For selecting the measurement mode, please refer to the “TWO MEAS-
URING MODES”.
STEP 3. Apply blood sample
Use the pre-set lancing device or a sterille, single-use injection needle to prick the skin of dog’s marginal
ear or cat’s paw pad. Obtain a drop of blood at least 1.0 μL of volume.
Gently apply the drop of blood to the absorbent hole of the test strip at a tilted angle. Confirmation window
should be completely filled if enough blood sample has been applied. Do
NOT
remove the paw of dog or
cat until you hear a beep sound.
If the confirmation window is not filled completely before the meter begins to count down, do not add more
blood to the test strip. Discard the test strip and start again. If you have trouble filling the test strip, please
contact your veterinarian or the local customer service for assistance.
NOTE
If you do not apply a blood sample to the test strip within 3 minutes, the meter will automati-
cally turn off. You must remove and reinsert the test strip to start a new test.
STEP 4. Get result
The result of your pet’s blood glucose test will be stored in the
memory automatically.
STEP 5. Display hematocrit
To display the hematocrit level, press M and the result appeared.
The hematocrit level will be stored in the memory.
WARNING
1. Please do not change your treatment on pets based on
the result without first consulting your veterinarian.
2. Turn the meter off by removing the test strip. Discard
the used test strip and lancet carefully according to
your local regulations.
