Flying the Recon
Dual toggle control (DTC)
The outer toggle is the main brake toggle that influences the entire trailing
edge of the paraglider. This toggle is used for normal flight, take off and
landing. Do not use this toggle with the speed bar is use. Avoid use of both
toggles at the same time when the glider is in full reflex trim.
The inner toggle is located inside of the outer toggle. The inner toggle
influences the trailing edge lines closest to the wing tip and not the central
part of the trailing edge. These inner toggles may be used under partial
speed bar but only in full trim. The glider will turn rapidly and drop significant
altitude when these inner toggles are used.
The inner and outer toggle line lengths can vary. Should the pilot require a
faster turning glider, he may shorten the inner toggle line. CAUTION - Do not
exceed 10 mm or 7/16 of an inch of variance between the two toggle lines.
The pilot may also disconnect this toggle and tie the line to the outer toggle.
Make sure that both sides are balanced evenly.
Wing Tip Toggle - This toggle is attached via Velcro to the B riser. This toggle
allows for true wing tip steering. Use this toggle for steering when using full
trim and speed bar. No trailing edge is in use.
Speed Bar
This glider is equipped with a speed bar. In the event that you do not know
how to properly use, attach or adjust the speed bar, PLEASE seek the advice
from a qualified instructor. Do not use the speed bar unless you are in full
reflex. Avoid the use of both the inner and outer toggle under full speed bar.
All steering should be done via the wing tip toggle.
CAUTION:
Many pilots with past or present free flight experience, keep their brakes
slightly applied at all times. While this technically works well for climbing
and reduces sink, it is NOT advisable for reflex paragliders such as the
Recon. When the brakes are applied and held down, the reflex profile on
the trailing edge is negated (removed) and could cause a loss of pressure
or trimming of the air foil, thus resulting in an instant collapse of the glider.
Maintain adequate altitude at all times to aid recovery in the event of a
collapse of this nature.
