A current-limiting resistor (e.g., 10–100M
Ω
) should be placed in series with the external voltage
supply to protect the tip and sample from damage. Current-limited power supplies may also be
used. Voltage leads should be connected to pins on the header using soldered, push-on connectors.
Do not
solder leads directly
to the header pins. Heat may cause damage and/or make jumpering the
pins dif
fi
cult.
The sample should be electrically connected directly to the chuck or a standard sample puck using
conductive epoxy or silver paint as shown below:

1. Locate the two toggle switches on the backside of the Basic Extender box (

then verify that they are toggled as shown in
Figure 14.7a
