6.2 Tightening of bolted connections
Do pay attention to properly tightened bolted connections. Check tightening of the bolt
fastening the working knife on the shaft before any machine use. In the swinging knives,
check also the bolted connection of rotary blades with the knife holder.
6.3 Replacement and sharpening of working knife
If the working knife cutting edges show wear or a knife damage results in machine
vibrations, the cutting edges must be renewed or knives replaced.

The machine must be standing on a firm support plate and must be secured so that
the knife can be easily accessible and an unexpected spontaneous machine motion
cannot occur.

Be very careful at knife disassembly. The knife cutting edges are sharp! Protect
your hands with protective gloves.

The engine must be switched off and the cable end connector to spark plug
disconnected!
Replacement procedure is as follows (always work with a helping hand):
a) Insert the auxiliar wrench into holes in the friction lamella and hold the drive shaft so that
it does not turn; loosen the bolt by using barrel spanner No. 16).
b) Take the knife out, plane the blade and sharpen cutting edges. Inclination of the
sharpened blade should be 25° with respect to the lower plane of the knife. The knife has
to be properly balanced even after the sharpening; therefore, the material loss should be
identical when sharpening the two cutting edges.
c) Mount the knife back at its place. The order of packing pieces as in the figure should be
observed in order to ensure correct functioning of the friction clutch.
d) Tighten the bolt by using tightening moment 45 N.m.

Should there be excessive vibrations occurring on the machine handlebars after the
assembly, it is absolutely necessary to balance the knife once again!
Note: Manufacturer does not answer for damages caused by the machine if the knives were
repaired by unskilled persons without the use of the original spare parts. The spare
“Complete knife 52 cm“ is supplied as one assembly (with respect to the fact that the user
cannot guarantee correct replacement of swinging knives and their safe attachment to knife
holder). Authorized service shops VARI can also make a replacement of the two swinging
knives with the whole bolted connection (see position 4 in the table “Swinging and mixing
knife“ on page ...) onto the original knife holder.
