2.2 Pr ofibus cabl e
1. Pr ofibus devices ar e connected in a bus str uctur e. Up to 32 stations (master or sl aves) can
be connected in one segm ent. The bus is ter minated by an active bus ter minator at the be-
ginning and end of each segment (see
Figur e 2- 1 ). To ensur e er r or - fr ee oper ation, both bus
ter minations must al ways be power ed. When mor e than 32 stations ar e used, r epeater s
(line ampl ifier s) must be used to connect the individual bus segments.
The maximum cabl e length depends on the tr ansmission speed and cabl e type (see Table 2- 3). The
specified cabl e length can be incr eased using the r epeater s. The use of mor e than 3 r epeat er s in se-
r ies is not r ecom mended.
