INSTALLATION - FIG. 1
Read this manual carefully before any operation
Mounting of the coupling on the towbeam.
1) Position the coupling (1) on the towbeam respecting the installation
instructions of the towbeam.
2) Fix the coupling (1) on the towbeam by means of 4 flanged screws
(2) and 4 flanged nuts (3). Tighten screws to the following locking
torque:
Hole pattern
Bolt type
Class
Torque
120 x 55
M14
10.9
120 Nm
83 x 56
M10
8.8
50 Nm
ATTENTION: Instead of flanged nuts and screws it is possible to use
self-locking nuts and split washers.
ATTENTION: Installation must be performed by skilled staff to avoid
any trouble.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS - FIG.2
COUPLING
Before the coupling operation check that the brake of the trailer is on
and that the drawbar eye and the coupling are on the same level.
1) Pull the security knob (3) outwards as shown in figure 2a.
2) Turn the security knob clockwise as far as it will go as shown in
figure 2b, and then release it. The security system is now open and
the coupling pin can be lifted.
3) Lift the action lever (4a) as far as it will go as shown in figure 2c.
The coupling pin is now up.
4) Reverse slowly the towing vehicle till the drawbar eye is in the bell-
mouth. The coupling pin (25) comes down and the security device
is engaged automatically as shown in the detailed drawing of the
figure 2d.
ATTENTION: Make sure that the coupling operation is properly
performed and that the security device is perfectly engaged as shown
in figure 2d.
UNCOUPLING
Make sure that the brake of the trailer is on, follow the points 1, 2, and
3 above and then move the towing vehicle forward. Coming out of the
drawbar eye makes the coupling pin come down automatically.
NOTE: To ensure secure and efficient functioning check that during
the coupling and uncoupling operation the drawbar eye is not more
than 3 degrees higher or lower than the horizontal axis of the coupling
MAINTENANCE - FIG. 3
ATTENTION! Make sure that the coupling pin is down during all
maintenance operations.
All moving parts of the coupling are subject to wear. The extent of
wear depends on the working conditions and on the maintenance
carried out.
After every 15.000
1) Check the tightness of the bolts (2-3 in fig.1) to be:
Hole pattern
Bolt type
Class
Torque
120 x 55
M14
10.9
120 Nm
83 x 56
M10
8.8
50 Nm
2) Lubricate the mechanism through the lubrication nipple (9) in fig. 4.
Carry out this operation with the coupling pin (fig. 3b) lifted up to
avoid overgreasing.
3) Lubricate all the moving parts of the security system (3)
Routine maintenance
At least once a year and depending on its use the coupling has to be
checked by skilled staff as follows:
1) Check that the wear of the coupling pin is within the limit indicated
in fig. 3a.
2) Check that the distance between the end of the pin and the lower
level is within the limit indicated in fig. 3b.
REPAIRING – FIG. 4
ATTENTION! Make sure that the coupling pin is down during all
repairing operations.
1) Substitution of the coupling pin (1)
a) Remove the elastic ring (2b)
b) Remove the cover (2a)
c) Remove the plate (8)
d) Through the opening under the plate loosen the screw of the pin-
lever (5)
e) Unscrew the self-locking nut (4b) and remove the action lever (4a).
f) Remove the pin-lever (5) through the opening.
g) Remove the coupling pin (1) by lifting it. In the meantime pull the
security knob (3) outwards.
h) While keeping the security knob (3) pulled outwards mount the new
coupling pin.
i) Position the pin-lever (5) inside the coupling with the tip
downwards.
j) Connect the extremity of the spring (6) to the coupling and insert
simultaneously the action lever (4a).
k) Using a lever pull the other extremity of the spring (6) till it reaches
the hole in the action lever (4a).
l) Mount the new parts 4e, 4d, and 4c in this order and tighten the nut
(4b).
m)Tighten the screw of the pin-lever (5) to eliminate the clearance.
n) Mount the plate (8) and the cover (2a) with the elastic ring (2b)
2) Substitution of the action lever (4)
a) Remove the plate (8)
b) Through the opening under the plate loosen the screw of the pin-
lever (5)
c) Unscrew the self-locking nut (4b) and remove the action lever (4a)
d) Connect the extremity of the spring (6) to the coupling and insert
simultaneously the new action lever (4a) in the coupling and in the
pin-lever (5).
e) Using a lever pull the other extremity of the spring (6) till it reaches
the hole in the new action lever (4a).
f) Mount the new parts 4e, 4d, and 4c in this order and tighten the
new nut (4b).
g) Tighten the screw of the pin-lever (5) to eliminate the clearance.
h) Mount the plate (8).
3) Substitution of the pin-lever (5)
a) Remove the plate (8).
b) Through the opening under the plate loosen the screw of the pin-
lever (5).
c) Unscrew the self-locking nut (4b) and remove the action lever (4a).
d) Remove the pin-lever (5).
e) Connect the extremity of the spring (6) to the coupling and insert
simultaneously the action lever (4a) in the coupling and in the new
pin-lever (5).
f) Using a lever pull the other extremity of the spring (6) till it reaches
the hole in the action lever (4a).
g) Mount the parts 4e, 4d, and 4c in this order and tighten the nut (4b).
h) Tighten the screw of the new pin-lever (5) to eliminate the
clearance.
i) Mount the plate (8).
4) Substitution of the spring (6)
a) Remove the plate (8).
b) Through the opening under the plate loosen the screw of the pin-
lever (5).
