11. You can now ride off just as you would if you were
riding a normal bike. The motor starts providing assis-
tance as soon as you begin to pedal.
From the first moment on, you have full assistance.
This is unfamiliar but comfortable. Practice starting
up in a safe location before venturing into the road
traffic.
5 Battery
Your battery is a lithium-ion battery, the ideal type of bat-
tery for this application. One of the main benefits of this
battery is its low weight combined with a high capacity.
5.1 Charging the battery
You can charge the battery whilst it is on the Pedelec
.
Alternatively, you can take the battery out of its holder
and charge it in a separate location.
This is recommended if it is cold outside, in order to
charge the battery in a warmer room. The battery can be
charged at temperatures between 0°C and 45°C.

5.1.1 Removing the battery
1. Insert the key into the lock and turn it anticlockwise.
The battery is now unlocked.

Down tube battery:
Grip the battery with both
hands and lift it forwards/upwards out of its holder. In
doing so, hold on tight to the battery to avoid drop-
ping it. Place the battery down on a suitable surface.
This should be dry, even and non-flammable.

Seat tube battery:
Grip the battery by the handle
and remove it from the Pedelec by tilting it sideways.
In doing so, hold on tight to the battery to prevent it
from falling out.

3. You should now remove the key and keep it in a safe
place to prevent it from breaking off or being lost.
