3.13.4 - SELECTING THE
WORK MODE (With key nr. 11)
There is a four-way electronic selector switch for setting three
boiler work modes:
1.
Automatic
(AUT)
2.
Burner only
(BUR)
3.
Wood only
(WOOD)
4.
Boiler disabled
(---)
To change the work mode, press key nr. 11
for a few
seconds; two short ''beeps'' and a long one confirms your
selection.
Each change of the work mode is saved on the non-volatile
memory.
In automatic mode, either wood combustion or burner
combustion can be selected.
In the case of wood, the user has to enable combustion
manually. The burner is disabled in this mode.
In burner-only mode, wood combustion is disabled and only
the burner functions are enabled. In this case, the burner is
automatically triggered by the input of the external ambient
chronothermostat or by the domestic hot water storage tank.
AUTOMATIC BURNER/WOOD OPERATION
In automatic mode, the system automatically switches between
wood combustion and combustion with the burner.
You need to start the wood cycle manually by pressing key nr. 13
; this activates a timer; it restarts automatically when heat
is produced and the heating or storage tank pump is running, or
when the boiler is in standby at the burning temperature.
The wood cycle continues until the fuel is finished and no more
heat can be produced; the timer then starts to count down and,
when the time has run out, the wood function goes into standby
and the system automatically switches to burner operation.
If the wood cycle is in standby and there is a need for domestic
hot water or heating, the electronic control unit starts burner
combustion by running the cycles described below.
BURNER OPERATION SEQUENCE
Various phases make up the burner operation sequence.
The combustion process is triggered automatically when
heating or domestic hot water is required, and involves these
seven distinct phases:
0. Burner in standby
1. Cleaning
2. Pre-ignition
3. Ignition
4. Pre-combustion
5. Combustion
6. Burning
7. Shutdown
Phase 0
, identified as
“StBy”
on the screen, indicates the
burner is in standby.
Phase 1
, identified as "
Clean
" on the screen, is for cleaning the
combustor and the fan runs at maximum speed
Phase 2
, identified as
“PreIg”
on the screen, is when fan
speed is adjusted according to the ignition speed and the
igniter is enabled.
Phase 3
, identified as
“Ign”
on the screen, involves an attempt
to ignite using the pre-loaded fuel.
Phase 4,
referred to as
"PreC"
on the screen, is the phase
immediately after ignition and involves the preparation of a
good bed of embers; the fan is therefore set at normal speed
and the fuel is not used.
Phase 5
, identified as "
FUEL
" on the screen, is when the fuel is
added and involves start and stop cycles; the fan is modulated,
as is also the fuel, by the sensor that detects the bed of embers.
For example, if the fire dies down when fuel is added, the flow of
combustion air is carefully adjusted in proportion to the amount
of fuel, ensuring the correct fuel/air ratio.
Phase 6
, identified as "
Burning
" on the screen, is when the
boiler reaches the working temperature. At this point fuel
ceases to be supplied and combustion eventually ends. Then,
if there is a long period of inactivity, final cleaning is carried out
by blowing air at maximum speed.
Phase 7,
referred to as
"Off"
on the screen, is the shutdown
phase. If the need for heating then ceases, the flame is put out
in a controlled manner and air is blown at maximum speed to
give the burner a final clean.
The system modulates the power automatically according to
the temperature of the boiler and that of the flue gas, and the
reading of the combustion sensor.
WOOD COMBUSTION MODE
Wood combustion mode is enabled by pressing key nr. 13
and continues until the fuel is finished.
This activates a timer in the microprocessor which can be
configured in the Technical programming menu; the timer
restarts automatically when the heating or storage tank pump
is running, or when the boiler is in standby at the burning
temperature.
The system goes into standby when no more heat is produced
and the timer runs out.
DISABLING THE BOILER
In this case, combustion in the boiler is disabled but the boiler
can still use solar power to produce domestic hot water and
heating.
