6. If you do not see the supplement listed, you must install it from the Windows95 CD.
To determine your USB chipset type:
1. Click
the
My Computer
icon using the right mouse button. A pop-up menu appears.
2. Click
on
Properties
using the left mouse button. This brings up the Device Manager.
3. The last item listed in the Device Manager should be Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
4. Click the + beside the Universal Serial Bus Controllers entry. Two items display, (your chipset) PCI to
USB Open Host Controller and Root Hub.
If a yellow exclamation point appears, or if one or both of them are not present, please contact your
computer manufacturer. If the USB section is not shown in the Device Manager, we recommend you
contact your computer manufacturer to enable USB.
Problem:
IRQ steering is disabled. For USB to function properly, IRQ Steering must be enabled.
Solution:
The IRQ Steering setting is located in the Device Manager. Follow the steps below to find out if the IRQ
steering is enabled:
1. Click
the
My Computer
icon using the right mouse button. A pop-up menu appears.
2. Click
on
Properties
using the left mouse button. This brings up the Device Manager.
3. In the Device Manager click the + symbol beside the System Devices item.
4. Double-click the PCI Bus to display the PCI Bus Properties.
5. Click on the tab labeled IRQ Steering.
6. The bottom half of this tab displays the IRQ Routing Status. Look for the following items:
•
IRQ Routing enabled
•
IRQ read from (where it is read from)
•
IRQ Mini-port loaded successfully
•
IRQ Mini-port data processed successfully
If you see these items as listed above, IRQ Steering is enabled. If you do not see the information, contact
your computer manufacturer. USB will not function properly without IRQ Steering.
Problem:
Scanner is not present in the Device Manager. The scanner must be present in the Device Manager. If
there is no listing for it, the scanner will not work.
