Slower attack times (turning the control counter-clockwise) will allow more
transient (“attack” of the note) through.
If you find your sound is lacking high frequency detail, try making the attack slower.

Faster attack times (turning the control clockwise) will create more compression
and make the entire note closer to the same volume.

Release:

Slower release times (turning the control counter-clockwise) will keep the length
of the musical note closer to what it was before compression.
•
Faster release times (turning the control clockwise) will increase the length of
musical notes.
If you hear distortion, particularly on low frequency sounds, try a slower release time.
