VERA S33 Operating Manual
The VERA S33 can be operated in one of two modes. The operating mode is selected
by choosing the preset in the system amplifier.
2.2.1 Cardioid
When the cardioid preset is selected, the 15" cone driver (rear) is phase-shifted and
time-aligned relative to the 18" cone driver (front). This creates maximum cancellation
behind the loudspeaker (>15 dB front/back ratio in a free field, averaged across the fre-
quency response). At the front, partial summation leads to higher sound levels.

2.2.1 Endfire
When the endfired preset is selected, the 18" cone driver (front) is in-phase and time-
aligned relative to the 15" cone driver (rear). This creates maximum summation in front
of the loudspeaker and higher sound levels compared to the cardioid preset. At the
back, partial cancellation leads to sound attenuation (>10 dB front/back ratio in a free
field, averaged across the frequency response).
