True Bypass or Buffered Bypass:
By removing the 4 screws and the bottom cover, you can see 2 slide switches. Use these to
choose true bypass or our Pure Tone buffered bypass for each channel.
Signal Routing:
The V3 Route 66 is truly 2 pedals in 1 housing. For basic setup, use the Compressor input
and the Overdrive output. You may also change the order of effects by plugging your guitar or
bass into the Overdrive input, use a short cable from the Overdrive output to the Compressor
input, and then go out from the Compressor output. For anything other than the basic setup,
just think of the Route 66 as 2 pedals.
Battery:
If you have a battery installed, make sure to unplug both Input and Output when not using, so
you don’t drain the battery. Then again, why are you using a battery? Get a 1 SPOT!
Switch pop?
For the first 45 seconds after applying power to the pedal, the sound of foot-switch pop is
normal, due to the time it takes for power supply filter capacitors to charge fully. After that,
unlike ordinary true-bypass switches, switch pop goes away.
What is the Tone on/off switch?
This literally turns the Tone knob on or off. When it’s off, the Tone knob does not function and
the tone circuit inside the pedal is bypassed, giving you more of a vintage compressor tone.
Having the Tone knob on gives you many variations of sound.
What is the Gate on/off switch?
This turns the Compressor noise gate on or off. The noise gate does not effect the Overdrive.
What does the Clean Mix knob do on each channel?
This is a single knob mixer that allows you to mix your clean (un-effected) signal back in as
you turn it counter clockwise. At the minimum setting, it is 100% clean and all other knobs and
switches will not function, except for the Volume knob which can provide a clean boost.
What is the Voice switch on the Overdrive channel?
Voice A is louder and more “stringy”, but less saturated than Voice B. Voice B has more
distortion artifacts and more “hair” as some would say.
Is the Overdrive channel based on the old Reverend Drivetrain?
Yes, but with a Clean Mix knob and a Voice switch added. Bob Weil (founder of Visual Sound-
Truetone) designed the Drivetrain for Reverend Guitars back in 2000 and later re-used that
circuit in the GarageTone Drivetrain. It was known for years as the go-to overdrive used by
Joe Bonamassa. We decided to use a modified version of that great circuit again with the V3
Route 66.
