ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
A 12-volt' NEGATIVE earth return system is employed in all circuits shown on Figs. 65 and 66. The system comprises a
generator, control unit and battery which supplies current to the ignition system, starter motor, lights and ancillary equipment.
To safeguard against damage resulting from a short circuit, always disconnect the negative cable from the battery before
removing or disconnecting an electrical component.
WARNING. If the vehicle is to be equipped with a radio, connected to the car electrical system, ensure that the radio is of
NEGATIVE GROUND POLARITY, or serious damage will result. Care must he taken to ensure that replacement equipment is also
of the correct polarity.
Battery
(Figs. 47 and 48)
The 12 volt lead-acid type battery, housed in the engine
compartment, is accessible when the bonnet is raised.
Maintain the top of the battery in a clean condition, and
ensure that the battery posts and terminals are clean, tight and
protected against corrosion by a coating of petroleum jelly.
Maintain the electrolyte at the correct level, by adding distilled
