Trac’s Impeller Puller Instructions
The following instructions relate the part #s referenced in the attached Diagram #1 unless otherwise specified:
Use arms MT1 (#6) f
or larger impellers up to 2 ¾ “ hub size diameter.
Use arms MT2 (#7) for smaller imp
ellers down to ¾” hub size diameter.
For reduced space for smaller pullers use shorter bolt #11 for pulling and #12 for pressing the arms into the
rubber surface of the Impeller.
For larger impellers use the #12 bolt for pulling (on top) and #11 shorter bolt for pressing (on the side).
For longer impellers use 6-
3/4” bolt (not shown)
Use optional arms (sold separately) MP2 (#9) or MP3 (#10) for gears, bearings, bushings, wheels, shaft
collars, couplings, propellers, fan blades, etc.
a) Unscrew the center bolt (#12) until the bolt tip is flush with bottom side of the center block (#3). Slide arms
between the impeller blades into the housing until the puller housing rests against the pump housing. Hold both
puller arms against the impeller, turn the locking bolt (#11) located on the side by hand until you find
resistance. Take a 9/16 wrench and give the bolt 3 to 4 full turns for smaller impellers, 4 to 5 turns for larger
impellers to ensure that the teeth for the arms are imbedded into the rubber impeller surface. If the arms
should still slide, give the bolt an extra 1 to 2 turns.
b) Center the puller bolt (#12) so that the point goes into the center hole of the shaft. If the shaft does not have
a center hole, use the point saver (not shown) slide it over the end of the bolt and center the bolt. Turn the bolt
and extract the impeller.
c) To exchange the set of arms, unscrew the set screw #13 and take off the puller arms. Select the next
required set of arms, hang them into blocks 2 and 4 and fasten with set screw. Tighten the set screw until it is
snug. Do not over tighten.
d) For pulling shaft collars, bushings wheels, steering wheels, bearings and other small objects with a hard
surface, proceed as before. Adjust the puller arms and tighten the locking bolt by hand ONLY. Do not use a
wrench as the extra pressure is not required for items with a hard surface. Center the puller bolt and proceed
with pulling
e) For best performance, ensure that all components and channel of your puller are free of dirt and debris and
well-oiled/lubricated with a high-quality lubricant/protectant. As the puller is made of carbon steel
– there is no
warranty coverage for rusting of the tool or components. The puller can be easily disassembled for cleaning by
removing 4 hex socket flat screws on the either side of the channel plate.
