Sensor detection information
● The sensor’s detection areas are limited to the areas around the vehicle’s
rear bumper.
● Certain vehicle conditions and the surrounding environment may affect the
ability of a sensor to correctly detect an obstacle. Particular instances where
this may occur are listed below.
• There is ice, snow or mud on a sensor.
• A sensor is frozen. If the sensor is deiced, the Toyota parking assist-sen-
sor will work properly.
• A sensor is covered with something.
• On a bumpy road, on an incline, on gravel, or on grass.
• The vicinity of the vehicle is noisy due to vehicle horns, motorcycle
engines, air brakes of large vehicles, or other loud noises producing ultra
sonic waves.
• There is another vehicle equipped with parking assist sensors in the
vicinity.
• A sensor is splashed with water or heavy rain.
• A fender pole, radio antenna or fog light is installed.
• The vehicle is approaching a tall or right-angled curb.
• In harsh sunlight or intense cold weather.
• An obstacle is directly under the bumper.
• If obstacles is too close to the sensor.
• A non-genuine Toyota suspension (lowered suspension etc.) is installed.
• An illuminated type license plate is installed.
• The tilt angle of the vehicle is considerably increased.
In addition to the examples above, there are instances in which, because of
their shape, signs and other objects may be judged by a sensor to be closer
than they are.
● The shape of the obstacle may prevent a sensor from detecting it. Pay par-
ticular attention to the following obstacles:
• Thin object such as wire, fences, ropes, etc.
• Cotton, snow and other materials that absorb sound waves
• Sharply-angled objects
• Low obstacles
• Tall obstacles with upper sections projecting outwards in the direction of
your vehicle
• People wearing certain types of clothing
● After an obstacle is detected, it may take some time before the buzzer
sounds. Even if the vehicle is moving at low speeds, the vehicle may come
close to the obstacle before the buzzer sounds.
● Obstacles that are lower than the sensor or thin may not be detected when
the vehicle comes close, even after they are detected once.
● When the audio system (if equipped) or air conditioning system is used, the
buzzer may not be heard due to the sound of music or the fan.
