Least Cost Routing Overview
Definition:
The Least Cost Routing (LCR) feature enables the system to automatically route each
outgoing call over system programmable specific carriers and selected lines. This enables
the DK40 to send the call over the most cost efficient route. The system can make full
benefit of the different choices offered to the customer using the different carriers available.
It can incorporate not just the direct carriers but also the indirect access carriers and the
customers own network i.e. TIE lines. The system can be set to define which codes, when
dialled are to be sent over which route and at which time of day. If the most economical
routes are unavailable, users with priority can access more expensive outgoing routes but
are alerted to this at the time allowing them the option to try again later. Several elements
of LCR must be defined in programming.
Note
For LCR to function properly, line groups must be created in
Program 16
; line
restrictions set in
; and the STD/International dialling plan
.
LCR on the system will look at a number dialled by the user and based on the information
programmed will decide how to route that call. The user can be given specific access to
selected trunks which dependant on the time of day will define which carrier is used to route
that call and if necessary an alternative route can be set should the first route option be busy.
Least Cost Routing:
The following provides the programmer an overview of the Least Cost Routing feature and
step-by-step instructions to fill in the Least Cost Routing System Record Sheets.
LCR General Parameters,Program 50-1:
Enables features including a warning tone for when the last choice route number is about to
be used, a comfort dial tone during LCR processing and turns LCR on or off. In addition
there is a speed up facility whereby if enabled (LED 2 ON) any user dialling a number that
starts with any of the digits 1 through to 9, the call will automatically be sent out using the
local route plan 8. Should the speed up option be enabled it will override any local toll
restriction assigned to the station and the ABR feature will not operate correctly.
LCR Exception/Override Codes, Program 50-300~319 and
50-900~919:
50-300~319
notifies LCR of the actual exception/override codes and
defines which route those specific codes will follow without any unnecessary delay. Local
Call Plan Number, Program 50-5:
Notifies LCR software which call routing plan is specifically designed to handle local and
special calls i.e 999 and 112 for the emergency services. Basically this program assigns any
number dialled that does not begin with '0' to a particular route plan. Any exceptions to this
rule must be programmed in Program’s 50-300~319 and 50-900~919.
LCR Timeout after 0 (Zero) is Dialled, Program 50-6:
Notifies the system of the time delay to the user after dialling a 0, before LCR is dropped and
a regular operator is accessed.
