Carrier signal reception
IED has two types of carrier signal transmission style. One is the general style of outputting
and sending a carrier signal from a binary output and receiving it from a binary input. It is
called “external carrier communication”. The other is a special style that uses the transmission
control function (DIF_COMM) to send and receive carrier signals, which can only be used with
IEDs that has the DIF_COMM function. It is called “integral carrier communication”.
Figure 2.4-13 shows how to receive carrier signals from the remote terminal 1. In the external
carrier communication, the carrier signal received by the binary inputs is connected to PLC
connection point (DEFCAR-R1). As a result, (External DEFCAR-R1) signal will be generated.
In addition, DEFCAR has the scheme switch [
DEFCAR-CHSEL
]. By this setting, (External
DEFCAR-R1) signal generation is as follows.
Single

(External DEFCAR-R1) signal will be generated by only (DEFCAR-R1).
And

(External DEFCAR-R1) signal will be generated by (DEFCAR-R1) and
(DEFCAR-R1-2) for fail safe.
Guard
:
(External DEFCAR-R1) signal will be generated by (DEFCAR-R1) and non
(DEFCAR-R1-2) for fail safe.
In the integral carrier communication, the received carrier signals transmitted by the
DIF_COMM function are connected to PLC connection point (INT.DEFCAR-R1-*). As a result,
(Integral DEFCAR-R1-*) signals will be generated.
