Checking the Spark Plug
Important:
Do not clean the spark plug(s).
Always replace the spark plug(s) when it has a
black coating, worn electrodes, an oily film, or
cracks.
If you see light brown or gray on the insulator, the
engine is operating properly. A black coating on the
insulator usually means the air cleaner is dirty.
Set the gap to 0.75 mm (0.03 inch).

Servicing the Air Cleaner
Service Interval:
Before each use or daily—For
Kohler engines—check the air
cleaner for dirty, loose, or damaged
parts.
Every 25 hours—For Kohler engines—service
or replace the air-cleaner foam element (more
often under dusty, dirty conditions).
Every 100 hours—For Kohler engines—replace
the air-cleaner paper element (more often under
dusty, dirty conditions).
This engine is equipped with a replaceable,
high-density paper and foam air-cleaner element.
Check the air cleaner daily or before starting the
engine. Check for a buildup of dirt and debris around
the air-cleaner system. Keep this area clean. Also,
check for loose or damaged components. Replace all
bent or damaged air-cleaner components.
Note:
Operating the engine with loose or damaged
air-cleaner components could allow unfiltered air into
the engine, causing premature wear and failure.
Note:
Service the air cleaner more often under dusty,
dirty conditions.
