1. Start the engine and let it run until warm. This
warms the oil so it drains better.
2. Park the machine so that the drain side is slightly
lower than the opposite side to assure the oil drains
completely.
3. Disengage the blade control switch and move the
motion controls outward to the park position.
4. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
5. Clean the area around the drain plug and on the
machine frame. Place a pan underneath machine
directly below the drain hole in the frame as shown
in Figure 26.

6. Remove the oil drain plug (Figure 26). Remove the
oil fill cap/dipstick (Figure 25).
7. Be sure to allow ample time for complete drainage.
8. Remove the old filter and wipe off the mounting pad
9. When oil has drained completely, install the oil drain
plug. Tighten the plug to 14 N-m (125 in-lb) torque.
Wipe up any excess oil on the frame (Figure 26).
Note:
Dispose of the used oil at a recycling center.
10. Place the new replacement filter in a shallow pan
with the open end up. Pour new oil of the proper
type, in through the threaded center hole. Stop
pouring when the oil reaches the bottom of the
threads. Allow a minute or two for the oil to be
absorbed by the filter material.
11. Apply a thin film of clean oil to the rubber gasket on
the new filter.
12. Install the replacement oil filter to the mounting pad.
Turn the oil filter clockwise until the rubber gasket
contacts the pad, then tighten the filter an additional
2/3 to 1 turn (Figure 27).

13. Slowly pour approximately 80% of the specified oil
into the filler tube (Figure 25).
14. Install the oil fill cap/dipstick and push firmly into
place (Figure 25).
15. Check the oil level (Figure 25); refer to Checking
the Oil Level.
16. Slowly add additional oil to bring it to the full mark.
17. Install the oil fill cap/dipstick and push firmly into
place (Figure 25).
Servicing the Spark Plug
The spark plug is RFI compliant. Equivalent alternate
brand plugs can also be used.
Type: Champion XC12YC (or equivalent)
Air Gap: 0.030 inch (0.76 mm)
Removing the Spark Plug
1. Disengage the blade control switch, move the
motion controls outward to the park position, stop
the engine, and remove the key.
2. Pull the wire off of the spark plug (Figure 28). Clean
around the spark plug to prevent dirt from falling
into the engine and potentially causing damage.
