9. Detecting and locating hidden objects
a) Setting the detection mode
• Before using the multidetector, follow the steps below to select the appropriate mode for the material that you want
to scan.
• For wooden materials, press the wood detection button (2) to enable wood mode. The wood symbol (D) will appear
at the top of the LCD. To switch to AC voltage mode, press the metal/AC voltage button (1). The AC voltage
symbol (E) will appear on the LCD.
•
To switch to metal mode, press the metal/AC voltage button again. The metal symbol (F) will appear on the LCD
b) Locating objects
The multidetector may not be able to detect all hidden objects. To eliminate hazards, refer to building plans, photos
and other sources of information before drilling, sawing or milling into walls, ceilings or floors. The presence of
magnets, moisture, metallic construction materials, metal foils on insulating materials or conductive wallpaper with
metallic pigments may lead to inaccurate measurements.
•
Place the multidetector as close as possible to the surface of the object and move it slowly in the
direction of the x- and y-axis.
• A green LED (5) indicates that no objects were detected within range of the sensor (9).
•
The signal strength indicator (H) increases when the sensor moves closer to a detected object and
decreases when it moves away from a detected object. The indicator reaches the maximum level
when the sensor is placed over the middle of the detected object. The red LED (7) will turn on and
the multidetector will beep. The location indicator (A) will turn on when the object is underneath the
sensor.
• Mark the location of the object using a pencil (for smooth surfaces, use a marker pen). You can
determine the approximate shape of the hidden object by moving the sensor and marking several
points on the surface.
Electromagnetic signals (such as Wi-Fi, UMTS, aviation radar, radio transmitters and microwave ovens)
may affect the accuracy of the measurements. If possible, turn off all sources of interference before using
the multimeter.
Detecting metal objects
•
Switch the multidetector to metal mode (see "a) Setting the detection mode"). The green LED (5) will turn on.
•
Place the multidetector onto the surface that you want to scan for metal objects (e.g. a wall, floor or ceiling). See
"b) Locating objects" for more information). The red LED (7) will flash when a metal object is detected in the vicinity
of the sensor.
•
The non-magnetic metal symbol (G) will be displayed if non-magnetic metals are detected.
• The location indicator (A) will be displayed and you will hear a continuous beep when the object is located directly
underneath the middle of the sensor (9).
