START Terrain Mosaic Opens the Terrain Mosaic Setup dialog to configure the terrain
mosaic collection settings. With a classic mosaic, if your sample
had a very rough or uneven surface, parts of the sample that were
closer or farther than the focal plane may have been out of focus.
With a terrain mosaic, every part of the sample surface is in focus.
A terrain mosaic takes longer to collect but results in more
accurate data if your sample is not perfectly flat and level. After
collecting a terrain mosaic, you can view the sample’s surface
topography by viewing the terrain map.
Mosaic
An image comprised of static pictures of the sample surface. The
mosaic is created in the
appears in the mosaic pane. It also appears in the mosaic pane of
the
.
Preview box
Defines a region of the optical image or mosaic that will be used
to scan a
of a representative area of a
sample. Use
Image Regions mode
or
Image Cross Section mode
to scan the preview image.
Scroll boxes (Mosaic
pane)
Can be used to zoom or position the optical image or mosaic
within the mosaic pane.
•
To zoom
the optical image or mosaic, drag one end of the
scroll box at the right or bottom of the mosaic pane
•
To reposition
the optical image or mosaic, drag the scroll box
at the right or bottom of the mosaic pane
Video pane
Shows a live video image of the sample surface captured by the
microscope’s video camera. The limits of the video pane are
defined by the magnification and numerical aperture of the
currently selected objective.
Video scale bar
For a properly calibrated objective, shows the scale of the video
pane in micrometers. Helpful for estimating the actual size of
features in the sample.
Preview status
In Video mode, this area shows the size of the preview region
(inside the
) in pixels, the estimated time required to
acquire the preview data, and the amount of computer memory
needed to store it. These values update each time you change the
boundaries of the preview box or the
setting to
help you evaluate the impact on time and available memory.
