Controlled Rate Freezer
Introduction
Intended Use
Thermo Scientific CryoMed Controlled-Rate Freezers are
used for the preparation of samples for storage at ultra-low or
cryogenic temperatures (-80°C to -196°C) to support medical
applications. When these Controlled-Rate Freezers are used
as an accessory to a medical device they are therefore
considered as a medical device in their own right by a
regulatory body: e.g. FDA.
The Controlled-Rate Freezers are intended for use:
•
As a device used to prepare samples for research use.
•
As a device for preparation of samples intended to be
introduced into the human body, such as primary cell
lines, stem cells (hESC), CAR T and whole blood or blood
components.
•
As a processing device for use in vaccine and
pharmaceutical production.
Non-Intended Use
These freezers are not intended to be operated in potentially
explosive environments, are not intended for storage of
flammable inventory, and are not intended for use in IVF
applications.

ON/OFF
The right side of the unit is equipped with an ON/OFF switch
as shown in
.
Control Panel
A 7" touch screen user interface is provided at front of the unit
as shown in
to control the unit.
Door Latch
The door of the Controlled-Rate Freezer is secured in the
closed position with a vise-action T-handle latch as shown in
. The latch maintains positive compression of the
door gasket against the Teflon heat break to prevent leakage
and ice build-up during normal operation. The latch is closed
by turning the handle 180° clockwise.
Make sure that the door is latched properly during operation
to prevent ice build-up.
USB WiFi Dongle
A USB WiFi dongle will be shipped with the unit, which allows
you to connect to a user accessible WiFi network (WPA2,
Enterprise) and establish a connection to Thermo Connect.

Thermal Printer (Optional)
There is a printer on top of the CryoMed Controlled-Rate
Freezer as shown in
. Printer provides a visual record
of a profile run, including any errors/alarms which might have
occurred. Run data is captured upon run completion, which
can then be printed from the Run Review screen.
