Temperature List for Cryo-Sectioning
The optimal cutting temperature of a specimen depends on the respective characteristics of the tissue
especially the fat content. The following table based on experience recommends cutting temperatures for
some typical specimens:
Range A -10 to -20°C
Liver
Kidney
Spleen
Thyroid
Lymph Node
Uterine Curettings
Tongue
Testicle
Range B -20 to -30°C
Muscle
Breast without fat
Brain
Bone Marrow
Lungs
Intestine
Prostate
Cervix
Uterus
Pancreas
Adrenal
Skin without fat
Range C -30 to -60°C
Adipose
Omentum
Breast with fat
Cheese
Butter
Industrial Waxes
Soft Rubber
Additional cooling with liquid nitrogen or dry ice might be necessary
Note
The indicated cutting temperatures are subject to a tolerance, as the fat contents of tissue differs amd
pathological tissue shows natural variations.
