This star, which forms the head of the swan in
the constellation Cygnus, is actually a double
star. With the help of your telescope, you will be
able to make out the two stars and their
different colors — one reddish and the other
blue. Use high magnification. (See the star chart
on page 28.)
Andromeda is our closest neighboring galaxy.
With your naked eye, you will only be able to
see it as a weak glow. With the telescope, it will
reveal itself as a long, diffuse patch — the light
from billions of stars belonging to the
Andromeda galaxy. Use a lower magnification
for this. (See the chart on page 29.)
