Operation and Reference

Control Keys

The Front Panel User Interface is accessed using the 4 control keys located on the
front panel of the Z-Max GPS Receiver Module: the

G

(up arrow), the

H

(down

arrow),

(enter), and

M

(cancel). The UP and DOWN arrow key are yellow, the

ENTER key is green, and the CANCEL key is red. The control keys provide access to
all the functionality of the display including moving within the menu tree, selecting
available parameters, and entering letters or numbers like a keypad. The keys will
work differently depending upon whether the screen is in Display mode or Edit mode.
In

Display

mode, the screen does not contain any parameters that are changeable.

The UP/DOWN keys are used to scroll forwards and backward within a submenu
level. The ENTER/CANCEL keys are used to move to a lower level submenu or up to
a higher level. In

Edit

mode, the keys are used either to scroll through and select from

a parameter list, or as a keypad to enter letters or numbers into a parameter field that
requires either alpha or numeric input.

For example, the LED screen is initially at the top level of the menu tree (see Figure
4.2) and is in display mode. Pressing the

G

(up arrow) key will scroll through the

submenus SYSINFO, SURVEY:mode, SURVCONF, SESSION, SETTINGS, and
COM OPTN. Pressing the

H

(down arrow) key will scroll through the same submenus,

but backwards. If you stop when the display reads "SETTINGS", you are now at the
entry point for the SETTINGS submenu. Press the

(ENTER) key, and you move

down one level into the SETTINGS submenu. Pressing the

G

(up arrow) key will scroll

through the available functions in the SETTINGS submenus: MEMORY RESET,
RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS, etc. Holding the UP or DOWN arrow keys for 3
seconds will initiate fast scrolling. Use fast scrolling when you have a large list of
items to scroll through. To perform a function in the SETTINGS submenu, press
the

(ENTER) key. To return to the top level, press the

K

(CANCEL) key.

The control keys functions in Display mode are described in Table 4.1. The control key
functions in Edit mode are described in Table 4.2.
